In a somewhat surprising move, the network has decided to keep ‘Til Death going for a third year, while they’ve had enough of the bickering anchors on Back to You.
Both sitcoms have been ratings-challenged this year but it was expected that Back to You, the flashier of the two, would be given another chance. Likely, it all came down to cost. Freshman Back to You is more expensive, with big name talent Kelsey Grammer and Patrica Heaton in front of the camera and creator Christopher Lloyd behind-the-scenes.
The cancellation put Grammer in an awkward situation tonight as he went on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote the season (now series) finale which will air next Wednesday. Meanwhile, ‘Til Death has been given a 13 episode order for next season and is expected to be given a spot on FOX’s Fall schedule.
Taking Back to You’s place in the line-up is The Inn, a sitcom whose pilot was directed by Jason Bateman (Arrested Development). Though some have expressed their doubts about the script, the network apparently really likes it and the pilot taping went really well this week. The series’ cast includes Niecy Nash (Reno 911!), Jerry O’Connell (Carpoolers), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (The Class). Stay tuned!

No! How can they? This is a brilliant (albeit not perfect) substitute for Frasier, and they’ve gone and axed it! Never have I wanted to start my own television network more than ever!
We’ve been watching it here in Australia on Ten, and it is a brilliant series! The jokes are funny, it’s well written, and has brilliant actors.
I am not a happy camper! (Growls angrily)
