Pan Am: Questions Will ‘Never Be Answered’ If Cancelled

Pan Am Christina Ricci on cancellation chancesIt’s no secret that Pan Am has been struggling in the ratings. As a result, ABC decided to order only one episode beyond their initial 13 installment order.

Pan Am is currently one of ABC’s lowest-rated shows and currently averages a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.76 million total viewers. That’s the same as now-cancelled Work It. The most recent episodes have been garnering a 1.2 in the demo, ensuring that the season average will keep dropping.

ABC maintains that the show has not been cancelled and Christina Ricci, the actress who plays Maggie the flight attendant, maintains that a decision won’t be made until May.

In a recent press call, she said, “I don’t really understand the ratings system and how that works or, I choose not to… If I go shopping, the people who work in the stores love the show. When I fly, all the flight attendants love the show. I know friends and family love the show. Most of them didn’t watch it during its time slot. Most of them watched it online or TiVo’d.”

Ricci doesn’t understand why Pan Am’s numbers aren’t better, but said, “I just feel like more and more people towards the end of the season are getting really into it and really saying that every show is better than the last. And that’s good, because you really want a show to have time for development and develop into something really amazing.”

There was hope that the 14th episode would be used to give the ongoing storylines some closure but Ricci says that’s not the case, “If there isn’t a season two, there will be questions that will never, ever, ever be answered.” She concluded, “But, hopefully we will get a season two and no one will know that until May.”

What do you think? Do you think Pan Am producers should have planned to end the show with episode 14 or, leave things unresolved in hopes of a second season?

Does she get back with dean? Does Maggie and the other captain get together? What about Ted and laura and Amanda? What happens there?! Omg do not cancel the show! I want to be a pan am stewardess! Xxxxxxx

I will have to say this show grew on me. My wife records it because there are other shows we have been watching in this time slot for a few years. It has gotten every week. it would be a shame to have it end.

I LOVE the show and hope it won’t be cancelled! Started watching it from day 1 and fell in love with it right away. I do agree that shows need some time to develop the characters and the story lines, not just a couple of months. This show needs another season!

It’s a great show, why not give it a another shot, and quit worring so much about the 19-49 age group that you are so hung up about. What, people over 50 don’t buy things anymore. In most cases we are the ones who have worked for decades and now have some extra resources to spent. Kids are gone, colleges over, weddings finished, get some sponsors that cater to the older viewers. Those of us who remember life in the 60’s are now in our 60’s. Pan Am is well written and well acted and it would be a shame to see it dropped and replaced with yet another run of the mill violent, graphic mindless show. You once thought it was great when advertising its first show, well stand by your beliefs and give it a bit more time.

We’ve yet to see the 14th (and final?) episode here in Britain. Scheduled for this coming Saturday (25th Feb 2012). Personally I love the show and hope there is a future for it. It’s a light warm hearted series that makes such a change from the depressing drama series people seem to prefer these days.

Please ABC, renew PanAm and give it a better time slot. Does anyone ever count the times it is viewed online or downloaded to DVR ?

I also watch online or PVR and did not miss an episode. It would be great to see another season to let the characters and storylines develop.

Great idea, since this is the Housewives last season, perfect spot for the show!

I love this show too. Everything is so well-executed. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
