Parenthood: Season Four Ratings

NBC parenthood ratingsUnfortunately, Parenthood has never been a hit TV show in the ratings. Fortunately, the numbers have been good enough to keep it from being cancelled each year. Will the Braverman family’s luck hold out? Time will tell.

An ensemble family drama, the cast includes Bonnie Bedelia, Craig T. Nelson, Dax Shepard, Erika Christensen, Joy Bryant, Lauren Graham, Mae Whitman, Max Burkholder, Miles Heizer, Monica Potter, Peter Krause, Sam Jaeger, Sarah Ramos, Savannah Paige Rae, and Tyree Brown.

Season four of Parenthood typically airs on Tuesdays nights at 10pm on the NBC network. They’ve ordered 15 episodes.

It wasn’t a great start of the season. Though Parenthood won its timeslot (opposite reruns), it was down year-to-year by 14% in the coveted demo (vs a 2.2 rating) and down by 13% in total viewers (vs 6.29 million). This isn’t a big surprise however since each season opener has been lower than the one before it.

Reference point: The 2011-12 season of Parenthood averaged a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.13 million viewers.

Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

What do you think? Do you like the Parenthood TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a fifth season?

Pleaseeee do NOT Cancel this show. I was instantly hooked. The cast of characters, so charismatic, the heartwarming moments of.. what a family means to each other, is inspiring. I am so disenchanted with endless “reality” shows, this show truly brings its audience base back to a time we can relate too, and a future to strive for.

Please renew Parenthood. It is our favorite show! If other viewers choose to watch mind numbing reality, crass comedy, or gory violence, to each their own. But don’t penalize those of us who prefer incredibly talented actors, great writing, and a refreshingly relatable family storyline that infuses humor into REAL issues. Please don’t take one of our last options away! (and we are in that coveted age demographic!)

Parenthood is my FAVORITE show! It should definitely be renewed! Most of the shows out there are reality crap and crime shows. It gets old. The writing for Parenthood is amazing! What happened to all the great shows centered around families? Brothers & Sisters, Once and Again, Party of Five, Thirtysomething, etc. All excellent shows, but cancelled too soon. Please keep Parenthood around, NBC!! It’s the only one of its kind.

I just recently discovered this show. I watched every Season on Netflix for 3 weeks so I could get caught up with Season 4 on demand. I love The Braverman’s!! Their everyone’s family, and the family everyone wished they had. Craig T. Nelson nails the head of the Family. Christina’s battle with breast cancer was deeply moving, sad,and courageous. Each episode made me cry. Wonderful writing! It’s so nice to have good television back on our networks as apposed to some of the smut they allow to Air. Please bring it back!!!!

Parent hood seems to touch on real familys that have real challenges we face everyday .
its nice to see positive ways of dealing with things that are out of our control, with love ,honesty, dignity & respect ! most shows on tv these days are extreme ego driven ,violent as well as ununified as a society. the american people need more programs like parenthood !
