ABC TV show Scandal ratingsIn its first season, Scandal drew mediocre ratings and was nearly cancelled. ABC likely brought it back because they need new dramas and are hoping that the ratings would improve in season two. Will they be glad that they took the risk? Time will tell.

The second season of Scandal typically airs Thursday nights at 10pm on the ABC network. The cast includes Kerry Washington, Bellamy Young, Columbus Short, Darby Stanchfield, Guillermo Diaz, Jeff Perry, Joshua Malina, Katie Lowes, and Tony Goldwyn.

Below are the TV show’s ratings for the 2012-13 season, the best way to tell if Scandal is going to be cancelled or renewed for a second season.

Final season averages: 2.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.48 million total viewers.

UPDATE: ABC has renewed this show for a third season for 2013-14.

Year-to-year, the season premiere of Scandal was up by 5% in the demo (vs a 2.0 rating) and down by 8% in viewers (vs 7.33 million).

Reference point: The 2011-12 season averaged a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.02 million viewers.

Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

SCANDAL is one of the best, if not the BEST show on TV right now. It has such invigorating plots and themes, even my husband is excited by the show and it’s usually hard to get him to watch anything but CNN and the History Channel. I am very concerned as to why they are showing soooo many reruns so early into Season 2. It is that ABC wants the show to fail? Is there such an issue still today with an interratial couple drawing such interest? Or is it that We can almost figure out who the show is really patterned after (i.e., Bush/Rice) of prior??? Either way, it’s a wonderful realistic storyline… Please people, don’t fall for the hype that the show is not doing well. I believe there is a conspiracy to purposefully hurt the show’s ratings. Nielsen choose me… I will give you a true rating (just hope you won’t rig the output, just like the voting poles…lol)

my wife and I really enjoy the show bring it back there’s nothing good on television any more it’s nice to see show with real actors and actresses what an actual plot what some drama thank you should get. Reality TV really really really really really really sucks!!!!!!!@

Scandal is great. Myself and at least 3 or 4 of my friends watch this show religiously. if they want to drop something, try some of those lame reality shows.

btw……how can i get Nielsen interested in asking me what I watch?
the last time i got contacted was over 20 years ago during a week of reruns and specials.

I love this show and hate to see that it may be cancelled! Its one of the best shows on ABC and hands down better than the other shows on diff networks. Please Please don’t cancel!!!

I love this show. I look forward to seeing each weeks episodes. It so refreshing to see a real T.V. show and not reality overboard.

Please bring back this show. I feel it is one of the better shows currently on tv. I am soooooo very tired of all the so called reality shows. I have to believe there are sufficient actors to fill the evening slots, without having to use untrailed, professional people in silly so called entertainment segments.
