Smash: NBC Drama Officially Cancelled Now

Smash canceled by NBCNBC has confirmed that their musical drama Smash has been officially cancelled. There won’t be a third season.

The news certainly doesn’t come as a surprise. Everyone but the most optimistic viewers assumed that the series was already done.

Smash premiered very well last season when it followed The Voice. Despite the strong lead-in, the ratings declined as the first season wore on.

NBC renewed it anyway with an order for 18 installments. They no doubt regretted that move when season two debuted to poor numbers. The ratings got worse and they chose to burn off the remaining episodes on Saturday nights, rather than simply pull the show off the air.

The last two episodes of Smash are scheduled to air on Sunday, May 26th. Hopefully the producers saw the writing on the wall soon enough and wrapped up the ongoing storylines.

What do you think? Did you like Smash? Are you sorry that the series was cancelled?

I loved the show. I am sorry to see it over. I can’t afford to get out to NYC to see live theatre so this was a GREAT sub….I am sorry to see it go and I hope to see the stars again on another show soon!

I loved the show and I am totally bummed that it’s been cancelled! There was a lot of talented singers, actors, dancers involved. I hope they bring it back!

I absolutely loved this show – what talent! I hope some other, more culturally astute, network picks it up.

I’m sorry to see this show end..Loved the music.. Story line was a little different than most.. So tired of reality tv..I would actually dvr this show to watch later, which I did no other. The cast was very good. Will be looking for SMASH cast members on other shows,Hopefully not on NBC.

i can see it was an expensive show to produce…the writing was at best not the best…but the staging…the singing.dancing…and trying to understand what derek just mumbled was well worth my time and i’m sure millions agree…have a single story-line – beginning middle and end become each weeks structure and a second continuing story-line weaving its way from episode to episode…there is a series underneath the rubble and it can be saved – A&E / TNT wake up and smell the emmy it’s right in front of you….

I loved Smash! And I hate that it was cancelled. There are so many other shows that should have been cancelled but keep getting renewed. Smash had so many possibilities. Katherine McPhee and Megan Hilty are wonderful. Hopefully another network will resurrect it.

I’m so disappointed to hear that Smash has been cancelled. This was one of the few shows that I enjoyed on TV. The music and acting were terrific! I guess all people want to watch on TV these days is the crap reality shows. People have no taste! The finale was great by the way! I will miss this show.

Maybe “Smash” would’ve done better if it had been on as much as “The Voice”. (-Two hours on this day; two hours on that day; a two-hour re-run last night!)

Very disappointed that Smash was cancelled. It was fun to watch and the music was great. Good luck getting better ratings with something else. Maybe another police drama or something futuristic??

Loved the show when it started. Wanted it to continue but the writers didn’t know what to do with it. There were touches of a good plot beginning, but never really developed, then toward the end, no story at all.
