FOX is cutting the episode order for their new sitcom Surviving Jack, from 13 to eight episodes. The reduced order is supposedly due to scheduling needs rather than a lack of faith in the series.
The network has decided to cut the American Idol results down to just a 30 minutes and will fill that leftover half hour with Surviving Jack. As a result, they’ll just need eight weeks of episodes. The network hasn’t announced a specific premiere date yet.
FOX has tried this strategy in the past with shows like Breaking In and The Loop. The sitcoms typically have performed well — until they no longer have Idol for a lead-in. Maybe this time will be different.
Surviving Jack is a coming of age comedy that’s executive produced by Bill Lawrence and based on Justin Halpern’s autobiographical book, I Suck at Girls.
Christopher Meloni plays Jack, a no-nonsense ex-military father and oncologist. He hasn’t had to parent very much but that changes when his wife starts attending law school. As Jack learns to be a father, his teenage son (Connor Buckley) and daughter (Claudia Lee) are learning to become adults.
What do you think? Do you think Surviving Jack will work? Will you check it out?
I really wish fox would bring back surviving Jack. Show rocked.
Surviving Jack was one of the BEST new shows in a very long time. Fox NEVER GIVES a good show the opportunity to catch on and have a following. They need to bring it back and put it on a regular time slot and night.
I love the show and hope it gets renewed.
very funny comedy; Christopher Meloni is wonderful as usual
I agree, Linda. I’ll give the show a watch because I’m a big Christopher Meloni fan. He seems to have a pretty good sense of humor so I’m hoping that a comedy role will suit him just fine and it will end up being a show that I (and Fox!) will want to stick with for the long haul!
Yes, I will watch it mainly for Christopher Meloni’s acting. It will be interesting to see him star in a sitcom.
