The new ABC series called the forgotten has received a bit of good news. The network has decided to order five more installments. Does this mean that it won’t be cancelled?
Starring Christian Slater, the forgotten follows a group of civilians who work together to find missing persons once the police have reached a dead end. Aside from Slater, the series features the talents of Michelle Borth, Heather Stephens, Bob Stephenson, Rochelle Aytes, Anthony Carrigan, Judith Hoag, and Lily Rains.
Debuting on September 22nd, the forgotten got off to a slow start with just a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.54 million total viewers. It lost a large percentage of the Dancing with the Stars lead-in audience and 12% of viewers tuned in before the hour was done.
The following week, viewership dropped to a 2.0 in the demo and 7.72 million. While overall viewership fluctuated in later weeks, the demo numbers stayed at the same disappointing level.
In a somewhat surprising move, ABC has decided to order five additional installments. Of the news, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reedd tweeted, “Very excited about the additional order of episodes for the forgotten.”
While this may seem like the network has faith in the series, it’s more likely an indication of other scheduling challenges caused by things like the cancellation of Eastwick.
Unless the forgotten’s ratings turn around, it’s difficult to imagine that ABC will order any more or invest in a second season.
What do you think? Can the forgotten be saved or is it living on borrowed time?

HELLLOOO ppl this is a great show. I love the show and the story lines. Its something besides reality tvI am so sick of reality tv its not even funny. we finally have a show that is worthy and they want to cancel it … please abc keep The Forgotten and lets FORGET about the rest.
This show is awesome. If it gets cancelled, I WILL NEVER WATCH ABC AGAIN!!
Again,,,stupidity with nothing to back up an “opinion”, Look at the poll….91% want it to stay on. This show helps people in real life, which is fantastic! Great show that needs to be kept on the air , for oh so many positive reasons, plus the great entertainment and stories. Bravo! Don’t forget new episode Tues March 9th 10pm est…it was pre-empted last week foe a special 20-20 on ABC.
The show is as bad as that crap show Eastwick, which was cancelled. This show should be cancelled as quick as possible.
this show SHOULD NOT be cancelled. it’s a really good show and i always look forward to watching it. hopefully ABC DOES NOT cancel this show!! second season should occur in my opiniono
The show should be cancelled. We need and want more quality then this junk. Silly plots, bad acting, and the writing is just plan bad.
The show definitely has its weak moments, but to say Christian Slater is the worst actor on TV is just moronic. Obviously you don’t watch much TV, then. He’s quite good, as is the rest of the cast – the writing, on the other hand, is a bit hit or miss, at least in the earlier episodes. It’s definitely found it’s groove in the last couple episodes, though, bringing more of a personal element to the group, and the addition of Eliza is a good one. Hopefully we’ll be able to see where the relationships go… and, not for nothing, I’d still like to know SOMETHING about Christian Slater’s characters daughter… something other than the one or two lines of dialogue we’ve gotten. Here’s hoping!
“Larry” is obviously crazy and in the minority! Looking forward to another great episode on Tues 3/1/10. Keep up the great work cast/crew!
Larry is in the minority. Looking forward to another outstanding episode this Tuesday March 2nd, 10pm Est on ABC. It’s continues to be a GREAT show! Keep up the great work!
This show needs to be cancelled. The acting and writing are weak at best. We need more shows like West Wing, instead you bring us this garbage.
For but a few comments like the one above from idiots, the show has a lot of loyal followers and is gettin better everyweek. Last night’s epidode was funny in spots(between the characters) and had the uusual insightfulfulness as the team tried to help find the girl’s killer, Another great episode! It’s a GREAT SERIES, keep it on!!!
The show “SUCKS”. Christian Slater is the worst actor on tv. Cancel this show as fast as you can, ABC.
What the F*C^ Is Wrong with you you know what if they canceled every show except the forgotten i would be satisfied thats the only show i look forward to You Suck not the show
Love this show, but as ABC has proven in the past, the seem to cancel the shows everyone wants to keep (ie: Dirty Sexy Money and Life of Mars!) Hopefully they will prove me wrong. Keep the forgotten!!!!!
This show started a bit rockey. Christian Slater’s performance was a bit over the top. Now the entire cast seems to be in a groove and the show’s performance is excellent. I hope they keep it.
I love this show. Please don’t cancel it. Its not every often you fine a show like this.
