It turns out that Unforgettable didn’t live up to its name. CBS has cancelled the police drama after one season on the air.
The TV series revolves around Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a female police detective with an unusually detailed memory (hyperthymesia) that helps her solve crimes. The cast also includes Dylan Walsh, Michael Gaston, Kevin Rankin, and Daya Vaidya.
Unforgettable started out the season with a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 14.09 million total viewers. Over the course of the season, the drama’s ratings declined. At the end of the season, they fell as low as a 1.8 demo rating with 9.45 million viewers.
The season ended up averaging a 2.3 rating in the demo with 11.3 million viewers. While the total number of viewers is impressive, the demo number (and its decline) is not. CBS already has several other shows that deliver lots of viewers but the advertisers gravitate towards the younger demo.
On our CBS Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative success of shows on the network, Unforgettable has a “C-” grade and is #15 on the list of CBS scripted shows.
If CBS wasn’t doing as well as they are, Unforgettable might have been renewed for a second season but, as it is, CBS cancelled the show instead.
What do you think? Are you going to miss Unforgettable? What made it unique? How does it compare to the other crime dramas on the network?

I love this show! From what I have read on other websites, the reason some of these good shows have been cancelled ,this season, is that the Neilson ratings are high, but not in the 18-49 year old catagory. Seems the advertisers are targeting the 18-49 years olds for their products and if they are not getting to them enmass, out goes the show. I think that is discrimination of some sort! We are stuck with mindless, reality shows. Some good ones that had a good story and made you think and wonder what is going to happen that have been cancelled are Harry’s Law, A Gifted Man and Unforgettable. I also happen to really enjoy Who Do You Think You Are. Even if you are not interested in Family History or the people whose history they are talking about, you always learn something about history in general. Think I’ll contact AARP and see if they will lobby the networks for us old people over 49!!!
Extremely disappointing, this was one of our family’s favorite shows, we never missed an episode. I have to agree with one of the previous posts – Shame on you CBS we are seriously sick of all the “reality” shows………… rediculous!
Awesome show — along with CSI: Miami and Hawaii 5-0, it was one of only a few CBS shows that I watched every week. I still want to know who killed her sister!
I LOVE THE SHOW. IT ALWAYS HAD A GOOD STORY LINE AND NOW WE ARE LEFT NOT KNOWING WHO KILLED HER SISTER. THERE ARE A LOT OF TERRIBLE SHOWS LEFT ON THE AIR AND YOU DECIDED TO CANCEL ONE OF THE BETTER ONES. WHO MAKES THESE DECISIONS?
Why take it off? The plots were good and they left us hanging about Rachel’s death and killer. Another good show taken off the air. Shame on you CBS
The way that CBS ran this show caused viewers to stop watching, it seemed like there were several weeks between episodes. A lot of good shows are being cancelled this season and this was a mistake.
I thought Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh had great chemistry together and would have looked forward to watching them re-unite with each other. I absolutely loved the show. It was different from so many other shows that are aired all week. CSI this, CSI that, definitely overkill. I’m sorry I will not get an opportunity to see these two characters again.
Loved the show!!! This is a big mistake. Should have left well enough alone. Now the only reason I’ll watch CBS is for Hawaii Five-O!!!
I cant believe they cancelled this show. It was so great, I thought it was so awesome and different from other criminal tv shows. I loved Carrie and her bad a** attitude. I will definitely miss this show!
Maybe the audiences quit tuning in when the show decided not to run episodes for so long that they assumed it was already gone? I watched every single episode, and everyone I have ever mentioned it to had never missed an episode either. So I am pretty sure that they had their audience. But it is no surprise that they took this show off the air. It was the only reason I bothered to tune in to the channel for the whole night, so of course they would prefer that nobody watched their channel so they could apparently score the worst ratings of all the networks on the air.
I loved that show! I just found out that it was cancelled and am very disappointed. I don’t even generally like cop shows, but this one had something a little different. Very unfortunate, especially if CBS replaces it with some brainless reality show.
Seriously????It was the perfect ending to Tuesday nights after NCIS, NCIS:LA. Please bring it back!!!!!
It’s absolutely ridiculous the shows that get cancelled each year that people truly enjoy. Everything is reality shows-crazy!
I can’t believe they cancelled a great show! So sick of 98% of the reality and sitcoms on the air now. One of the best new shows out there…Shame on you CBS!
I am very pet with cbs for cancelling Unforgettable. My Tuesday nights will needer be the same… NCIS, NCIS:LA, but now no Unforgettable. I loved that Carrie could remember everything and the characters. Now we’ll never know who killed her sister or wheat happens to the team… How very sad…
