ABC gave 666 Park Avenue a lot of promotion leading into the fall season. Has it paid off? Is the new show a ratings success or is it in danger of being cancelled instead?
If you haven’t seen it, 666 Park Avenue follows a Midwest couple who’ve moved to New York City and end up managing The Drake, a prestigious residential hotel. They feel like they’re living their dream lives — until they realize that every dream comes with a price. The TV series features the talents of Terry O’Quinn, Vanessa Williams, Dave Annable, Rachael Taylor, Robert Buckley, Mercedes Masöhn, Helena Mattsson, Samantha Logan, and Erik Palladino.
The show debuted on September 30th, in ABC’s troubled Sundays at 10pm timeslot (see: Pan Am, GCB). The premiere’s ratings weren’t very impressive, attracting a mediocre 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.9 million total viewers. That was 30% lower than what Pan Am had registered last fall — and we all know what happened to that show.

Unfortunately, Park Avenue’s numbers have gotten even worse since the debut. The coveted demographic dropped to a 1.7 rating in week two (down 19%) and a 1.5 rating in week three (down another 12%). The ratings perked up a bit in weeks four (a 1.7 rating) and five (a 1.6 rating) but are still terrible.
A couple weeks ago, ABC ordered two more scripts for Park Avenue, likely to give the network execs some extra time to continue watching the ratings and then determine the show’s fate. If they were hoping for growth, they were disappointed.
ABC initially ordered 13 episodes of Park Avenue. They could put some more into production but that seems unlikely given the ratings. We’re heading into the holiday season so the show will probably be pre-empted and that will likely hurt the numbers even more.
For whatever reason, this one just hasn’t resonated with a large audience. At this point, unless the ratings start getting better, it looks like 666 Park Avenue is doomed to be cancelled.
But, what do you think? Do you like the TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season? Could anything be done to attract more viewers or is it already too late?
My son and I love this show. I hope it doesn’t get cancelled… or at the very least, they at least tie up loose ends before they do cancel it.
I loved the creepy supernatural vibe of American Horror Story last year. This season, I haven’t been impressed by AHS, so 666 Park Avenue has been filling that void.
And Gavin reminds me so much of the Devil from one of my other favorite early cancellations Reaper.
Hope it goes on… but usually the shows I seem to like get axed.
Cancel this rubbish!
I like it….it needs to keep building it’s storyline and it needs more time. I don’t mind the Sunday time (there’s nothing else on to watch) but it would be neat to move it to Wed night just before AHS airs on another network so people could have a horror night: Supernatural, 666 and AHS.
If the network wants to keep the show then they have to change the time slot. Sunday night is for football and light entertainment. A show about a demonic apartment building just doesn’t seem suitable for Sunday night.
I really like the show, but I agree. More sex, gore and creepier storylines would help. And Sunday night for a fledgling show is AWFUL!!
This show is going to go the way of Harry’s Law, American Gothic and others like it. Great stories, but took awhile to get an audience. Crap like DWTS, Bachelor keep going and going. I wish they’d be gone, gone, gone.
Cancel this terrible show. I don’t know how anyone can like it. Its badly written, boring, hardly any development in characters or storylines. The acting is HORRIBLE, I seen better acting in porn and the special effects are terrible as well. These suppose “actors” with the exception of Terry O’ Quinn are all models trying to be actors but they all fail. Rachael Taylor is a horrible actress, how does she continue to get roles is beyond me. Robert Buckley is the worst of the bunch. The dude can not act to save his life. Just end his career and… Read more »
This show needs to be cancelled along with Nashville, Revenge, DWTS, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad, The Wednesday Comedy Lineups, The Chew, and Katie Couric’s talkshow….all need to go….
I think the series 666 Park Avenue needs to be given a chance. It needs time to build it’s storyline and the cast is really great.
Perhaps some people should go away and never come back! I like this show! It’s got an interesting storyline and a great cast – if given the chance – it would likely become a cult classic with immense staying power! It’s too bad that it will probably never get the chance! Cancellation will be a foolish decision!
Add some more violence, gore and sexual content and it will be sure to attract more viewers. Sad, but ohh so true.
Please keep this show. It’s creepy & interesting. I didn’t think I was going to like it at first but after the first episode I was hooked!
I love the show 666 Park Avenue. Please don’t cancel it!!
Blame the time slot. Sunday night has football on and there have been some great games on. We watch 666 after the games are over. I hope ABC figures out a way to keep it going.
Oh please this has nothing to do with the Mayan prophecy you have been watching to many movies .The reason everyone is voting to cancel it is because the show is garbage and boring and lame .The acting and the special effects are so bad that a high school kid could do a better job .THE SHOW SUCKS AND NEEDS TO GO AWAY AND NEVER COME BACK.
Wow, I am guessing I know what the b stands for after nightmare. A joke comment doesn’t deserve such crude responses, either does any series. How about we get the actors, special effects department, and everyone else related to this show to look at your job and life and tell you that it “SUCKS AND NEEDS TO GO AWAY AND NEVER COME BACK”
Everyone who voted to cancel it are supporters of the Mayan prophecy, and will be correct. The series will be cancelled on December 21st, along with everything else.
