This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

I enjoy many shows on CBS and would hate to see a gifted man cancelled. Please continue the show!
It is the only thing I watch on CBS. It is one of three shows that I make sure that I don’t miss ever since I discovered it a few montages ago.
I love the show!!! It is my favorite!!! I do not watch tv but I do watch this show when it comes on. So I will very sad if it gets cancelled!!! Please do not cancel it!!!
I am getting so tired of quality shows like this this getting dumped. Ok so I’m in the minority as someone who does not like the reality or talent shows, I have enjoyed this one. Please do not cancel this show. It is fresh and creative, with a strong cast. Also it’s an excellent medical show…not the norm. Please!!!!
I really hope CBS does not cancel “A Gifted Man”. I have really enjoyed the show and Patrick Wilson is a great actor. Please give it more time.
Please!!! Do not cancel A Gifted Man We love this drama.
I am very fond of this show, and have loved the development of the characters as his dead wife’s apparitions have become less and less frequent. Please don’t cancel it. It is so different, and the actors are so good.
I agree with Michael. This is an intelligent, story-rich, beautifully acted show. I’ll be very, very disappointed in CBS if it’s cancelled.
I agree; it would be a huge mistake to cancel this show. It’s a highlight of my week and I don’t want to lose it now that I’ve gotten familiar with the characters.
I am sorry to hear that A Gifted Man may not be renewed. I like the show very much. I’m surprised its not doing well. There’s not much on Friday nights. Its sad.
I really like the show. Please don’t cancel!
This is my favorite show to watch. I would be really sad to see it go. Please renew for another season I even got my sister to watch it and she also likes it.
Patrick Wilson, as Dr. Michael Holt, is just beginning to blossom in front of our eyes … and CBS is thinking about pulling the rug out from under this show? I think it’s truly a mistake to cancel this show! It’s got a superb, well-rounded cast … great balance in terms of the themes from week-to-week … and it teaches the audience a healthy respect for the world of neurology! Patrick Wilson reminds me so much of a young Paul Newman. The last episode, before the finale, gave us a glimpse of (hopefully) other sides of Dr. Holt’s character (as… Read more »
