This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

I quit, I give up, I whatever, TV (any network) doesn’t give shows much of a chance anymore! It’s all about money… and us common people have no say no matter what. Why waste my time to give a comment. It means NOTHING!!! I DVR many shows, never watch them live so as to watch more and skip through commercials. Half or more are then canceled. Why invest time to enjoy and then see shows booted and have no ending, no answers to plot lines etc. etc.!! Maybe it time to realize that it is just a boob tube run… Read more »
I noticed my message was there and now is gone. Is it because I slammed reality tv and said I would turn off tv if a reality show replaces a gited man?
Putting five good shows on at same time was impossible. Not fair to the viewers or shows. It is not possible to watch or record them all. Gifted man was the only on on demand, so it could be watched later. If had been on at 10pm many moe people could have watched the show. I am mad that I really enjoyed this show and it was set up to fail. CBS needs to give it another season.
Keep this on! It is well acted and interesting. Finally a show with real heart. I like the focus on character development. Friday nights should focus on a different age group and priorities. Young adults are not watching tv, yet other people are! I know alot of people who watch the show on dvr. It really made me mad that 5 of my favorite shows were all put on the same night and same time. Why put supernatural, fringe, grimm chuck and a gifted man on same night and time. The 10 pm time slot only has one show and… Read more »
I fully agree with Diane. My wife (also named Diane) and I watch this every week and consider it one of the top five shows on TV. We also hope CBS will definitely renew it for another season. If you take it off, it will definately be the last time we watch ANY CBC shows EVER! KEEP THIS SHOW ON!!!!!!!!
I think a gifted man is a really good show. I have enjoyed it more as the show has developed. It would have done better at 10pm. There are to many good shows on at 9pm on friday night. There is nothing on at 10pm so I turn off the tv. At 9pm there were other established shows I prefered. I would watch vs private practice or several other shows I can think of, especially reality based shows. I will never watch any reality show that replaces this show!
This show is moving and not your average cop show. It has heart and doesn’t necessarily depend upon violence for its storyline. Maybe that’s the reason more people aren’t watching it.
We
A Gifted man. Look forward to it. Like the characters and the storyline. I hope they bring it back.
i was against it because it took off my. favorite show. CSI NY.I also like Blue Blood. put it on sat/sun where there is nothing on worth while to watch. Maybe then it will be watch by more people. thank you.
This show is really good and I too look forward to it each week. I hope CBS will renew it for another season. A Gifted Man is by far the BEST show on TV prime time. I believe that poor advertising is part of the problem this show experienced. While CBS airs commercial after commercial to advertise shows such as CSI and Big Bang Theory, which already have a large audience, I have seen very few ads for A Gifted Man air during the day or during prime time. A Gifted Man is a fresh show that lacks the violence… Read more »
Please don’t cancel Gifted Man! It is a great show and it is getting better and better! Give it a chance!
I look forward to watching The Gifted Man every week. I hope CBS will definitely renew it for another season. I have become tired of the other reality and violent and ****** shows that are on tv. I feel like I can watch and at least be able to learn something medical. I’m not seeing who is sleeping with or killing who like on other shows. PLEASE CBS KEEP THIS SHOW ON!!!!!!!!
I enjoy this show because it shows the evolution of Michael’s character
and is more spiritual in nature. It is my favorite show and a welcome relief from reality shows and other IQ lowering shows- please promote this show and keep it on the Friday lineup!
A Gifted Man is in the minority of exceptional shows with a great cast, well-written and directed. I will be very disappointed to see this show cancelled. Undoubtedly it will be replaced with just one more lame criminal show of mediocre quality. I guess the networks are continuing to cater to the “no mindless show left behind”. Reality shows are the leader in that category. CBS you’re really out of touch with a large demographic of your viewers!
I have enjoyed watching a gifted man. It has real life appeal and the a terrific line up of actors. The program is educational as well since there are medical cases that cover such a broad range. Hopefully CBS will give it one more season. Either time slot work ed for me because I record it each week.
I wish it had been given a full season. The program seems to gets better and better.
