This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

Sigh – once again another well-casted, wonderfully acted, slightly offbeat drama is on the chopping block. I haven’t missed an episode of A Gifted Man, and but like so many other series I’ve been a big fan of (Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies, even Journeyman), I seem to pick the ones destined for the trash bin after one or two abbreviated seasons. I thought perhaps this one would be different due to CBS’s reputation of giving dramas a little bit more time to build an audience (think Medium and Cold Case). Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Luckily I’ve… Read more »
Noooooo! A GIfted Man is one of the best shoes in a long time! I work at a large hospital I Miami where there is a large and growing fan base. The show has proven to be very medically accurate
The CBS Friday night line-up was one of 2 that I looked forward to as it appeared in the fall of 2011. Many viewers are not excited about the “so-called” reality shows….count me among them. I love A Gifted Man, CSI NY & Blue Bloods. It was so good to have a full evening of entertainment with real content rather than insane competitions about nothing. Please give back the original line-up on Friday.
ME AND MY HUSBAND ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE SHOW WILL BE CANCELLED HOPEFUL TNT,USA, WILL HAVE THEIR EYE ON PICKIN IT UP AND SAVING THIS SHOW.
IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THAT PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW GOOD TV ANYMORE. THE SHOW HAS GOOD DRAMA AND STORY LINE. KEEP THE SHOW ALIVE.
Please keep it going! The lines are delivered with excellence. The endings are never predictable. It’s educational concerning medical terminology. The juxtoposition of the free clinic against the ultra-modern Holt Clinic keep it from being boring, and the variety of characters leaves openings for many story directions.
I typically avoid TV series, but this one had me hooked.
NO! THIS IS GREAT SHOW!!! I LOVE IT. DON’T CANCEL ANOTHER GOOD ONE!!
I just love A Gifted Man. All of the actors are superb, as is the writing. I also really like Blue Bloods. I hope you keep both of them on.
Love A Gifted Man. One of the best shows and the friday night line up was great until you had to mess with it. I love Grim too and I record it and watch it the next day. Patrick Wilson is great. When you start moving shows around like you do it messes everyone up. Put the shows against crap shows on other channels! CBS has most of the great shows anyway so stop messing with them.
They need to keep The Gifted Man on cause it is a great show they just keep taking shows off that are good or great and put stupid shows on like all these reality shows please keep The Gifted Man on .
I second this. Still the same old song – only the shows that are easily readable for a vast majority of viewers can survive longer. In other words, no deeper thoughts and boost the violence please.
A Gifted Man is great. I love how you can’t predict what is going to happen. CBS, Don’t cancel this show. Let it go and more will watch. I personally know over fifty people watching it.
This is an amazing show that take us to a place where physicians go further to the science we know and test us to go beyond conventional, plus it has a lot of feelings and internal conflicts. I am a big fan and I look forward to a new decision and be blessed with a second season.
This show is kind of interesting, but not a great loss if it goes away.
We record pretty much EVERYTHING these days – no watching live TV except maybe golf and news. Sometimes we’re recording as many as 4 shows at once between EyeTV and Tivo with 2 tuners each.
I wonder just how they “count” viewers/share for that?
I’m a doctor and I love this show very very much.I think it’s the best medical drama nowadays. Please keep it on!
I do watch Undercover Boss, and have in every timeslot/day of the week they place it. That being said, if A Gifted Man goes off the air it is likely that Undercover Boss will be the only show I watch on Friday nights on this network. It appears that I have already lost my CSI NY, and will never watch Blue Bloods (just bores me, fine if anyone else likes it, but I have not met anyone who does.) So I guess the network is pushing to just not have any viewers on Friday nights, rather than holding on the… Read more »
Damn, why is there still no possibility to buy episode of such great shows outside US? I would really like to support the shows I like with a few bucks, instead I have to download them from torrent sites.
