This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

I LOVE A GIFTED MAN! It it so much better than most “medical” shows… like Grey’s Anatomy….which now very boring. I enjoy all the characters on the show and enjoy the cases that come in to them. Don’t know why it never took off with more viewers…..maybe the time slot???…. but for some of us it was pure pleasure to watch. What a pity CBS will cancel this show!!
I agree with everyone here, this show is Awesome. I look forward to coming home from work on Friday and watching this show. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW!!! I think 8.18 million viewers is quite a lot of people that enjoy the show.
DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW!!!! I only record three shows TOTAL. this is one of them. I LOVE the characters and could not see this ending so quickly.
Why didn’t CBS have Patrick Wilson do PR on talk shows…the man is gorgeous & if more women knew about him it would boost ratings!
End it. Poorly scripted, poorly acted and irritating. The show is not gifted.
This is by far my favorite show. Give it one more chance. It will catch on!
A Gifted Man is one of my favorite TV shows, and I never miss it each week. It is refreshing, wholesome and conveys real life, not just reel – life, like so many fantasy vampire type shows, which I refuse to even begin to watch, because of lack of education/experience of real life. A Gifted Man reminds us of real life experiences and is very educational. A Gifted Man is a family show that has some of the best actors supporting the main character, Dr. Michael Holt, who is a class act himself, played by veteran actor Patrick Wilson. The… Read more »
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW……WE LOVE IT TOO MUCH……..GIVE IT A CHANCE STOP SPOON FEEDING THE AUDIENCE AND THE RATINGS WILL PICK UP. GET MORE CONSISTENT WITH WEEKLY VIEWINGS………..
this is a great show! please do not cancel it!
I think the problem is the title — it give no clue that it’s a hospital show. Sounds too much like Medium or something it’s not. It’s a great show with a great cast and CBS should stick with it and consider changing the name. There are so few great hospital dramas on TV today and there is a big audience. They just need to find each other. Dumb name.
A Gifted Man is one show that I, as a medical professional, look forward to every week as each week the MD faces a different challenge. The interpersonal relationships of colorful characters are stimulating to watch and second guess. I find this program entertaining and worth my precious little free time for relaxation.
A gifted Man is one of the very best series on network TV, but no one seems to know about it. I think it’s the inherent impatience of the major networks and that is why they are losing to cable shows like The Walking Dead, Justified and Breaking Bad. A Gifted Man is my last network show if cancelled. I might as well wait for them to be canceled and then watch them on Netflix!
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW!!!
I have loved this show since the first episode in Sept. 2011. I think it would be a terrible decision on CBS’s part to cancel this show. It has been a LONG time since we have had a powerful and moving show on television. A Gifted Man IS that type of show!! Come on CBS…do the right thing! RENEW!!!
I agree with everyone, this show has got great promise – not do cancel it. The actors are highly talented and do a tremendous job with a sometimes weak script. Maybe the show should replace some of the writers to give it a stronger market.
I love Gifted Man… It is a great show… please don’t cancel
