This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.
Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

Please don’t cancel this show. I love this show and wish there were more shows on like it. These days, the shows on T.V. are so adult based and we need a clean show like this. My whole family enjoys it and again it is a clean show.
Great Show, clean and entertaining
I have been searching for the new time slot for A Gifted Man, and finally realized that it was gone, period. I really liked the characters in this drama, and enjoyed seeing their personas fill out more and more as each episode appeared. I felt a closeness to all of the regulars, much like I have done with the NCIS regulars. Family.
Hopefully, there will be a reconsideration of the cancelled series, and that we can see reruns until new filming can be done.
I just love this show It always left me feeing good inside, where most showes on TV now days are filled with sex and vilance that I don’t watch the whole thing or feel totaly yucky and drop the show all together. Why should we worry about ratings, if we get more shows like this on the TV the rating will go up and more age groups will be able to watch and enjoy. I am in agreeance with all the above people in their comments and hope as well that this show is not cancelled as like Miami Medical… Read more »
I really hope that CBS will give The Gifted Man another chance. I really enjoy the show, and I stumbled upon it looking for something good to watch. I don’t think they advertised the show enough. I’m sick to death of all the reality show crap. Bring us back quality TV!!!!
I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee this showwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww !!!
I caught on to this show mid-season and found I really liked it. The cast and the stories are good and it’s not yet another crime-murder-cop show.
But, OTOH, I felt that the basic premise was off. I think I would like it a whole lot better if the ghost of the dead wife would find her peace and go away for good. I think that took a lot away from what could have been a much better show.
Even with the ghost hovering around, I would have continued to watch it,
I am addicted to this show! I can’t believe it didn’t get better ratings. I guess people would rather watch “reality” tv than quality entertainment.
Pleaae renew the Gifted Man. With all the garbage on tv it’s refreshing to view a program with content. I looked forward to this program on Friday nights.
Just like Miami Medical, areally good show is going to be dropped. You know what the problem is, they do not have all that wonderfull, sex scenes, like the on call room being the red light district, the adultry being carried on, oh and dont forget two woman embracing and sucking tongue. And of course the drama of who is doing what to who. To bad a Gifted man producers left all that out, it might have a chance for renewal. Good old CBS, good shows with a good story line, and be fit all viewing.GONE Raunchcy it up, bring… Read more »
I love this show……,I am not sure about the audience but I am a diehard fan. I might consider reading more books than watching tv if this services is cancelled.
please!! don’t cancel it its one of the best shows, its impossible you are going to cancel it, please give us another season and i am sure it will take off!!
This is by far my favorite show! It’s so disappointing that it’s being cancelled. I think the reason it didn’t do as well as hoped was because it seems people these days, prefer something raunchy, fake and immoral instead of smart, entertaining and informative.
This is what I LOVE about A Gifted Man. The fact that Patrick is one fine man (THOSE EYES) but he doesn’t constantly have his shirt off and sleeping with a different woman every week is what makes it worth watching.
I am also very disappointed that The Gifted Man is being canceled. The way the characters all worked together in a professional and thoughtful manner is definitely better than some of the totally stupid comedy that are on TV.
Please don’t cancel this show. It was great. With all the stupid reality shows its hard to find something good to watch.
