This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

Leave it to CBS. I am very disappointed that the gifted man maybe canceled
it was 1 of the best shows and I would like to see it renewed for second season.
I loved that show and the cast. Kept waiting for it to come back on. I am so disappointed that it has been cancelled.
One of the best shows on TV. I hope it is renewed or given to a cable channel for continuance.
This was the best show in the past three years. It had good acting, some substance and not so much violence and sex like so many other ridiculously inane shows. Sorry, my neighbors and I all really enjoyed it and looked forward to seeing the next episode.
Very Disappointed Giifted man was a great show with a great cast and now that its probably gone the lineup for CBS has become ridiculous. There are not (3) shows in a row that are decent to watch on any night except for Tuesday’s . There are too many reality shows in between the few good shows that are left. Those are very boring!! I am watching more movies and will be watching less of CBS in the future. It is ridiculous to assume that the only people that make the difference in cancelling a show are 18-49 year olds.… Read more »
I love A gifted man!
I think that the reason it will be cancelled is that its too cheesy, too predictable. I like the show and would be a little upset to see it leave. But I won’t be surprised if they do decide to cancel it…
I love this show, about helping people instead of killing them, sure hope CBS brings this one back. I know ratings are important but I think this one deserves a second chance.
I loved the show and I hope comes back next year
We love this show. The time slot was probably the problem. We wish it would return in a better time slot.
I am sick and tired of liking new shows and then they are cancelled. I agree with the other posters…don’t like reality shows and if a show makes you think like Lie to Me..it is cancelled. If this show is cancelled, I am not watching any new shows anymore. What is the point.
this was one of the best shows on tv. The theme was great, having his wife come back and kind of guide him toward being more human. Each of the main characters are unique. CBS is making a real big mistake with this one. I already miss it. I didn’t watch much on CBS anyway but this show brought me there at least once a week.
There is no accounting for peoples’ tastes!!! We LOVE this show and won’t waste our time watching the glut of “reality shows” that are programmed. (You folks REALLY believe that those shows are reality???) A GIFTED MAN is not trying to pass itself off as reality so don’t over-think it… This show should NOT be cancelled!!!
Theme of The Gifted Man is Questionable.
Ex-wife dies but is caught between this world and heaven or hell.
Shows up at specific time to speak with X.
The premise of the show is difficult to swallow.
That is the reason the show isn’t having the greatest audiences.
I LOVED this show – a Gifted Man. You finally get a doctor show that is more than just a soap opera and it may not be coming back? Big mistake – Please bring it back!!!!
I think pandering to the 18-49 demographic is patently stupid. If you want to talk demographics, the Baby Boomer generation is STILL the largest single group of consumers in the U.S. Some very successful and very profitable companies have always and are still taking advantage of this . Back when the networks were in their glory was when the Boomers WERE the 18-49 demographic (the 60’s and 70’s). The Boomers are still around spending even MORE money than they did as teens, but the networks have still not grown up. Too bad. A show like “Gifted Man” deals with sophisticated… Read more »
