Sometimes, TV shows that are based movies can be big successes. Sometimes not. About a Boy was not and now NBC has cancelled it after two seasons without even airing all of the episodes.
About a Boy revolves around San Francisco songwriter Will Freeman (David Walton) who had a big hit. It set him up for life financially — and gave him a lot of freedom and free time. His world is turned upside down when a charming boy named Marcus (Benjamin Stockham) and single mom named Fiona (Minnie Driver) move in next door.
The sitcom debuted in February of 2014 with a special preview episode that attracted a healthy 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. In its regular timeslot a week later, the ratings rose a bit to a 2.47 rating with 8.36 million. The numbers started falling after that but NBC still renewed it for a second season.
Season two performed even worse and lost a lot of steam. It hit a new series low of a 0.69 rating in the demo with 2.41 million viewers. NBC decided to trim About a Boy’s episode order by two and then opted to drop it from the schedule, leaving six installments unaired.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to air the leftover episodes and, now that they’ve cancelled the series, it doesn’t look likely that they will.
What do you think? Do you like the About a Boy sitcom? Would you like to watch the remaining six episodes?
I never heard of this show till last week on Netflix . I am sad there is no season three. I fell in love with the characters. The show was excellent. well written. Funny in a silly way. And refreshing to see a show that had a lot off innocent fun. And How Will and Marcus Grow with each other. I would love to have seen more.
Watching this show brought me mixed emotions, in a good way. Moments where I would bust out in laughter or an over-whelming feeling of sadness. When I heard that they canceled the show I was crushed. It is unfair to leave the fans of the show with a cliffhanging ending in season two and now show us the remaining episodes. Please release the last few episodes.
So sad, my husband and I found this show on Netflix and have been watching it non stop! To find out there is no season 3 is so frustrating! The show is so funny and great! I wish they would bring it back!!
I am so upset to find out there will not be a season 3. I came across this show on Netflix and binge watched it . I was constantly laughing. I love this show! Season 2 ended with me wanting to know more so I am very upset about this. I did not know about it when it was on t.v. but finding it on Netflix was the best 🙂
very upsetting to find out there will be no Season 3!! My husband and I watched it and both really liked it and thought we would watch it with our grandson . Please bring it back!!!!
I would have loved to watch season 3 of this show. Season 2 ended in the way we had all been expecting and wanting more from and left everyone hanging only to find out there’s no ending. I came across this show by accident on netflix and absolutely fell in love with it. I would really love it if this story had an ending any ending. Why air something that isn’t finished for its viewers. Not fair in my opinion.
I would have loved to see this show continue to air. Its quirky, funny, emotional and heart warming. Perfect length to watch in between breaks and tasks at home and at work,
Any hope of it coming back?
So disappointed this show is canceled. The show is hilarious. Please either bring it back or let Netflix take it over! Can’t get enough of it!
I would really like to have seen a season 3. It’s a very good show, well written and well acted by Minnie Driver, David Walton and Benjamin Stockham.
I really enjoy this show! Had I known that it had been renewed for a second season and when it started airing I would have tuned in. But I am just as happy to binge watch it on Netflix. But disappointed to know that there will not be anymore episodes and wishing I could see the last episodes taped but not aired.
Enjoyable! Love Minnie driver and the premise is terrific. David Walton is great and Benjamin stockham is quite a precocious actor. I think you should air the remaining episodes and give it a third season in a good time slot.
Great show. They need to make another season. The way it ended has left me in suspense… tho I have always wondered about the possibility óf Will and Fiona hooking up and it happens on the last show. Very disappointing!
NBC really missed the boat by cancelling this show, “About A Boy.” It is quirky, clever and really funny. The cast is stellar. So disappointing with all the crap that is on tv today that something this well written and acted would get the axe. I think this is why I never tune in to NBC anymore. I can’t image why advertisers would want to advertise with you. There is nothing worth watching, even your new Fall lineup is disappointing. I’d rather watch Netflix. Smart, clever and funny doesn’t seem to be your preference. It shows your lack of confidence… Read more »
I am so unhappy about the cancellation. This show was great. So cute and funny. I was very happy to have found it not knowing it was a cancelled show and I am so dissapointed now!! BRING IT BACK JERKS!
So upset that they didn’t finish the show left you hanging. Needs to come back!!
