Following the ratings success of The Bible mini-series on History, NBC ordered a sequel — AD: The Bible Continues. Has this mini-series been the answer to the network’s prayers? Will they want a second season?
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the numbers saw severe drops in weeks two (falling 28%) and three (falling 31%) and the rating have kept coming down nearly every week. AD has hit series lows of a 0.7 rating in the demo and little more than four million viewers.
Though this was billed as a mini-series, the producers have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two. Just in case the network wants a second season, they need the additional lead time to have episodes ready for next Easter.
Still, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be much reason for NBC to order a second season of AD. They could make the show an annual event but the audience numbers really aren’t big enough for a network.
Burnett and Downey could however choose to take the project back to cable where The Bible was a big success for them. That also did very well with DVD sales. In today’s ever-shifting marketplace, they could find enough outlets to keep producing Bible-based series for years to come without being on a network.
What do you think? Would you like to see a second season of AD: The Bible Continues on NBC? Would you watch it elsewhere?
7/3 update: NBC has cancelled the series. They won’t air a second season but…
YES YES YES
Loved this show. Very enlighten and educational. We watch every week.
NBC really needs to rethink and continue on with season 2 of AD The Bible Continues. It is one of the best shows ever aired! Really looking forward to seeing more if this series!
I think it was a wonderful show that depicted the biblical story in a realistic view for believers and non-believers. Great cast, Please continue.
Yes, we want the series to continue, my family enjoy this program. Shame on NBC.
Please continue to show The Bible Continues, it is the only show I have enjoyed watching on Sunday night! The actors are brilliant as well as the whole show in every category ! My husband had to take religion in college and he also enjoys this show. We are both retired teachers and some of the shows on TV today are disgusting and embarrassing to watch! Please renew or someone pick this show up for us to watch on their channel!
Yes, most definitely would see more seasons of “A.D.: The Bible Continues.” It is refreshing to have a faith based, morality building TV series to watch.
Of course they should make another season and more than just one. These are epic tales of the Bible. We love them and watch each and every one. Please bring this back. I can’t wait for the new episodes each week!! The best show on TV in my opinion. Please don’t cancel this wonderful program.
there must be a season two. dont stop it for ratings or viewers this is good work.
Yes I would like it to continue! I have looked forward to each episode! It is a breath of fresh air to see positive series on tv instead of all the garbage that is aired daily..
It sadness me to see that it had been canceled and I hope they will decide to reverse their decision and keep it on the air!
God bless!
I love the series!! Please continue it, i was disappointed when it didnt come one..please make season 2…
Yes!! Renew for Season Two and beyond . Our secular Society needs even a little bit of Biblical History and inspiration. Times as these American’s must be able to understand or at least ponder a greater Power made this History …what was the force behind the happenings of over two thousand years that started the Christian Religion and kept it’s teaching’s intact even till today. I was surprised and pleased that NBC chose to Air the Series, and thought maybe the Program Directors felt the same way as me. I do hope they change their minds and give us at… Read more »
I loved watching the show every Sunday night. Keep it on.
My Family makes this show a weekly event in our lives and for our faith. Greatly disappointed if it is not available next season! Common NBC and producers! Please renew!
Absolutely need/want another season to follow the journeys of the disciples. Please add season two!
Please continue!!! I DVR the show and cannot wait to see it each week. Maybe Sunday nights are not good for ratings as many Christians are at church.
This show makes the Bible come alive for me and I will be greatly disappointed if there is no 2nd season. I have gotten familiar with the characters and I feel like I know them. They have done well to bring their characters to life and help us to see our Christian heritage play out.
Thank you for your consideration to keep AD The Bible on for a second sesson.
