As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Very dissapointed the network cancelled such a great series when there’s other stupid vain shows that remain on the air.
Definitely agree
WE WANT MORE!!!!! WE NEED THESE!!!! WHERE EVER THEY GO , MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER
WILL FOLLOW!!!!! PRAY IT WILL BE GOD’S WILL FOR SEASON TWO!!!
The show was neither biblically or historically accurate. Why state the story is based on Acts and let writers rewrite the text? It’s inexplicable. To take pieces of truth and mix it with “a story” to attract the unindoctrinated makes no sense. Isn’t that a fovorite trick of lucifer? Hopefully new writers will use quotes from the actual bible when they are quoting it.
Sad to see this canceled. Finally have a good reason to watch a TV series and it gets the hook after the first series. I was so addicted to this show. It gave me something to look forward to on Sunday night.
I am so disappointed the show was cancelled. I understand business is business so I can’t fault NBC, but I would love the producers to know, I will follow the series where ever they take it and would be willing to pay to watch it.
And also thank you for taking the opportunity to produce a series worth turning my television on for.
My family really enjoyed this show. Please bring it back, because a lot of people don’t go to church like my family does and they don’t know about biblical things. I thought everything was spot on with the bible. A lot of families in our church were watching it. Please bring it back. It was #1 on our list every Sunday night.
This is the one show that my kids (9 & 12) would say while we were out, “Mom, A.D.is on, get home so we don’t miss it!”. So the family would rush home every Sunday to make sure we watched it together. Every Sunday since the last show, my kids have asked if it is on and they are disappointed when I tell them no. I wish it was going to air for a second season.
This is one of the best films I have ever seen anywhere. It appears to be the closest depiction of the BIBLE. I wish the whole BIBLE would be put on film. I know it has touched millions of lives. Thank you Roma Downey and Crew.
Yes, let us put the whole Bible on TV for people to see how disgusting it is, such as incest and dashing infants against rocks. Psalm 137:9
Excuse me! I don’t think so. This is the first time I have even made a comment. I have a right to my opinion, like everyone else!
very disappointing!! I was looking forward to watching season two
My husband and I are heart broken A.D. The Bible Continue uses was cancelled. It is a marvelous series. Well acted and so realistic. This is truly sad.
so disappointed about the cancellation of this show, they have to finish the story at least.
this is a great series for children to see and learn. please release the season 2
A.D. The Bible Continues was a great series and deserves a second season. It’s sad to see a series canceled due to the fact that it did not have a rating of TV-14-L-S-V which resulted in a low percentage of viewers.
So disappointed in sudden cancellation of a series that finally had substance and meaning instead of another meaningless reality show. We need more programming that represents goodness and truth.
I am VERY DISAPPOINTED that the Bible AD has been cancelled. Ifinally had a show on TV the I could sit and watch with my children that didn’t talk about sex, alcohol or drugs. Shame on you NBC for canceling this series!
I don’t know what you’re talking about, Jesus turned water into wine. The Bible talks a lot about alcohol and alcohol was mentioned on the show a few times.
