While doomsday meteors, mass vanishings, demonic possessions, and serpent gods couldn’t stop the Copeland family, no one is immune to the network TV Powers That Be. The Aftermath TV show on Syfy has been cancelled after its first and only season.
Star James Tupper broke the news that there would be no Aftermath season two, on Twitter. Halfire Entertainment produced the post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama in association with Syfy and Canada’s Space channel. Anne Heche, Julia Sarah Stone, Taylor Hickson, and Levi Meaden also starred.

Aftermath Season One Ratings | Syfy
In the US, Aftermath premiered on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 with a 0.16 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic and 634,000 viewers. While the series never really built on that audience, it did manage to maintain it.
Overall, the first season of Aftermath averaged a 0.16 in the demo and drew an average total audience of 594,000 viewers.
Those numbers currently put Aftermath right in the middle of Syfy’s slate. Out of the 15 Syfy TV shows we have been tracking in to 2016-17 television season, Aftermath ranks seventh, when we sort by either demo ratings or average total audience size.
Although it is a bit of a surprise to see a cable channel cancel a middle-of-the-pack TV series, remember, Aftermath is a Syfy-Space co-production. In other words, the decision was not only Syfy’s to make.
That said, in the recent past, Syfy has cancelled shows that earned better ratings in both measures. When the cable channel cancelled Defiance after three seasons, it was averaging a 0.25 and 1.125 million, respectively. Similarly, Dominion, which was cancelled after two seasons on Syfy, averaged a 0.25 in the demo and 869,000 total viewers.
Finally, what do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Aftermath TV show? Do you think Syfy and Space should have cancelled or renewed it for a second season? Let us know, below.
I hate not having closure on a show. I thought the place in the ratings might get this show a second season but I’m not surprised at the end result. Some casting decisions were poorly made and the early episodes were very rough at times. The final episodes and the possibility Anne Heche was killed off made a renewal more interesting in my opinion. The SyFy channel has a long history of dropping shows it has no business cutting off without proper closure but a one season bust can’t be compared to the injustice shows like Eureka and Alphas suffered.… Read more »
I am so sick of shows I like being cancelled while the dreck continues on for years.
I honestly do not understand WHY Y’all will drop a great shows say like Warehouse 13 – Aftermath – Defiance – Eureka – Primeval: New World ? Then you put on some show say The Magicians – Channel Zero – Face Off -Incorporated ETC that really should NOT even be on TV ??????? I know this is just one persons opinion but if this keeps up I after watching SyFy that used to be The Sci-Fi Channel for so many years I forgot the first time I watched a show on The Sci-Fi Channel but just might not have a… Read more »
I agree with the comments below. I found this on demand and never knew the series existed until then. The show has great potential and just needs more time to build viewership and awareness. I was going to tell all my friends to watch it but I now that it’s cancelled guess it doesn’t matter. Sorry to see it go.
I’m very disappointed. I watched every episode and was really looking forward to new season. Very annoying to have no closure with story line. Maybe someone else could pick show up and go with it. There’s alot of potential here
I’m sure that syfy is on their way out the door, they reel you in with a good series then cancel. I would like to see ending or more shows. Watched every episode and couldn’t wait to see the next. Maybe we need a Canadian tv channel here in the USA.
really enjoyed all 13 episodes and I would love to see more it really left me wanting more each time.
Syfy, give the show another season… it had me on the edge of my seat like Walking Dead… this is better than Defiance by far. I never saw an ad for it, found it on On Demand Fios and we love it. Maybe if you advertise it better… cmon, what is better than Wayne Brade as Military Camp leader… booty!
I really enjoyed this show. I wish Netflix or Amazon would pick this show up. I’d really would like some closure.
I started out being meh, but my bestie and I fell in love with the rich mythology, and the “kitchen sink” way it combined legends from across the globe. Vastly more interesting than seeing the 1 millionth zombie killed, I can tell you. Sadly, it just never caught the eye of the Whedonites and others that would love it. I remember Buffy season 1 (yes, I was a fan day one, and was damn worried it would be gone quickly). thinking the same thing, and I was right, with season 2 of Buffy being one of the top seasons by… Read more »
Really liked this show they never wait long enough fo shows to get on other streaming sites an other ways of watching, by then its like oh we dont have the ratings but who has reg tv channeks anymore most ppl watch over streaming sites as of netflix amazon an hulu as well as many others they shoulkd wait tell its out for a min an then get the ratings an see how hitt ut was, this is wat pisses me off about the shows makers
Loved the show. Finally some original content for entertaining our brains rather than numbing it. But SyFy…I never saw a single ad for this show. If you would advertise a bit I’m sure the fan base would rise. We are the genre that is loyal to thought-provoking content. But we gotta know it exists in order to show our support. Get a grip on your business model SyFy!
Please bring season 2 tp tie up the show. I really enjoyed the series.
Just Do Season 2 and tie it up. Just watched this show. It is sci fi and that is what we got. I do agree with some of the reviews about the weird scenes, for example people they loved getting killed and the actors are ok 2 seconds later. The Killjoys is the dumbest show I have ever watched and that is still on tv. Do a better job at advertising like you are doing with the Magicians, i can’t get away from the damn commercials. Actually, I think I won’t watch the Magicians because of too much advertising.
Just watched first episode. Good story, terrible directing. I assume that is where it failed.
