Season one of Aftermath just finished on December 20th. But what about a second season? Do you think the Syfy TV series should be renewed or cancelled?
The sci-fi drama follows the Copeland family as they struggle to survive in the face of apocalyptic events. The cast includes Anne Heche James Tupper, Levi Meadon, Julia Sarah Stone, and Taylor Hickson.
The series premiered on September 27th to fairly low numbers, earning an 18-49 demo rating of .16 and around 634,000 viewers. While the second episode received higher viewing numbers at around 755,000, the show’s ratings never reached that high again. The entire season netted an average of only .16 in the 18-49 demo and a total of 585,000 viewers.
Though the ratings are low, Syfy has renewed series will similar viewership numbers. It’s also worth noting that the series is produced for Space in Canada so it’s unclear how much the US channel’s participation has an impact on the series future.
We want to know what you think. Should Aftermath be renewed for a second season or should the drama be cancelled instead? Please tell us below.
1/13 update: The Aftermath TV series has been cancelled. Details here.
NO. Spolier Alert: I couldn’t even make it through the whole season. It spent five or six episodes trying to reunite the family, only to have them intentionally split up later on? The religious kid runs away from home only to kill himself because he can’t handle what’s happening. The “smart,” peace loving sister makes so many stupid decisions I have no idea how she could actually survive any of it. The world is coming to an end, and the main characters hardly seemed fazed by the weird paranormal situations. The writing is bad, the plot is bad, the actors… Read more »
You should’ve watched the whole season!!
yes one more
I vote yes on a second season I just binge watched all 13 episodes and I like it. Just tell me the day it comes back on
I vote yes to a second season! Good show and low budget at that.
I watched every episode and loved it. Was really mad the way it ended. Need season 2′ I hate it whenever they put shows in like that. Just to keep you hanging and wondering if they will show more.
I watched every episodes of season 1.
Honestly, the storyline is weak and the dialogs are bad.
Although I enjoyed some of the episodes, it wouldn’t be a great lost if cancelled.
I liked it. Great characters and the acting was good. The problem was I didn’t even know it existed until Dec 27th! I binged watched it online. AWESOME!! Yes, please a season 2.
Enjoyed the first series, however getting pretty hacked off watching series only to find no follow up or conclusion, in future I will, Google and search for a series so at least I will not be wasting my time watching it in the first place
Yes. The production company/studio should do more to promote the Aftermath series. I am convinced that promotion plays a key role as to how well a movie/series will do.
There were numerous plot holes and things that were just bad television but the concept held enough promise that I finished the season. The story became better composed, still with plenty of room to still grow, and ended at a point I’d like to know more…and all the better if the mother character is gone for good. Anne Heche doesn’t fit her character at all…it was painful watching her trying to be the country living mother of three who was a special forces soldier…she just doesn’t have that depth…stiff as a rock in even the most sentimental, intimate scenes. This… Read more »
The shows stars – Anne Heche and James Tupper – are married, so I think it’s a package deal. SPOILERS. The show needs to build up supporting characters, not red shirts created specifically to die such as the aunt, the boyfriends, etc.
Car crash television, painfully bad. I only watched it to see if it could get worse as the weeks went on. It did. I have no intentions of watching a season 2.
This show is produced by a division of Bell Canada and they will make the decision to go forward with season two, not Universal/NBC which owns Syfy.
Fascinating if true. Does that mean that SYFY has to show it if Bell Canada brings it back? I would guess NO. If SYFY does show it, then they would want to bring it back. Yes? How many shows does SYFY want to bring back with ratings under a 0.20, which is really atrocious? I think this would be the 7th one. Failure is acceptable at SYFY. Thank you for that piece of info. Let’s see what happens.
Syfy is under no obligation to broadcast the show. Bell Media produces original content for Space, a Canadian channel that owns. It also produces Dark Matter, among others. (Wynonna Earp, Killjoys, Channel Zero, The Magicians, and almost every scripted show airing on Syfy is filmed in Canada, but some are Syfy co-productions).
I like this show. It was a bit strange at first. And even though some character decisions are obviously ‘just’ to drive the plot to a certain point, but that’s the case with most shows. In general… I like the mix of science, sci-fy and mythology. Now they just need to get rid of the “bad guy” of the week. Like whenever someone new enters, they’re either some kind of crazy (like the hospital lady from ep 10) and/or just ‘bad’ (like Biker-Daddy/-Grandpa). Or they’re not, but die within 3 eps at most (not counting those that were met at… Read more »
This show is shamefully bad. It is amateurish garbage with the worst acting, writing and directing on TV. Stop it.
It finished with a 0.16 SYFY has already renewed a bunch of shows with ratings like this. It’s not the 0.04 that Blunt Talk did, but it’s not good. Since nobody at NBC Universal will get fired for renewing shows with these ratings, expect it to be back. This will be the 6th or 7th show this season SYFY has renewed with ratings under a 0.20
