NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
I can’t believe they cancelled this show! It was well-done but was mostly stuck in a bad time slot. It makes one never even want to get started on another only to have the network pull it after a few episodes. They didn’t give it a chance. There’s so much other junk on and this was a captivating and smart story. Boot The Slap. I tried to watch it and just lost interest. Networks should be required to air a program with a concluding ending anytime they plan to cancel a show simply out of courtesy to the viewers who… Read more »
I LOVE both allegiance and the slap. If they are cancelling these shows because they can’t unseat Shonda Rhimes they should get the message and provide an alternative for folks who might want to watch something else. The majority may like Shonda but what about those of us who love Shonda but also love the good television that is those 2 shows? Just when I was getting excited about network tv again.
I really was enjoying it. There ought to be a TV land rule that says: When you cancelled a show, out of respect for the viewers you have to film one tie-it-all-together finale.
Watch it online.
I’m very disappointed with NBC’s decision. I know that business is business, but it seems disrespectful to ask people to watch your show, allow you to get so far into it, and then pull the plug before resolution.
Boo – NBC ! Alliegence was a very good show and had lots of potential, than you cancelled the show WHY??? You stopped it mid- season and just left us hanging. Shame on NBC.
You leave on that stupid show “The Slap”
Why did NBC cancel this show without finishing the storyline…very upset they pulled it in the middle of the series, without showing us”how it ends 🙁
Love this show! Bad decision to cancel so soon. Great characters, engaging story.
My parents and I were watching this show. They are MAD that Allegiance was cancelled mid-season. They preferred it over the Americans since it’s set in the present time and the right amount of drama and action. And they don’t want to watch the Slap (what a silly premise)! Please NBC, renew it or at least finish the season!
Best new show on…..please rethink this move !!
It is always a gamble to create shows on a trend of similar subject matter. Allegiance had a potential but the gritty 80s “The Americans” has an appeal which cannot be equaled…
HELLO VLADIMIR
ARE YOU SLR?
YOU PREFER AMERICANS OVER ALLEGIANCE

Loved the show. In fact is much better than The Americans that had the same premise.
Wow, why do they always cancel good shows and leave the crap on. Allegiance was a good written series with excellent acting and a storyline. Very disappointed.
Love the show Allegiance. I was so disappointed it was cancelled. It’s much better than The Slap.
We would really at least like to see the remaining episodes. We really enjoyed this program.
Boot the Slap, keep Allegiance! Just another example of people in positions not understanding what people like.
