NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
This is an excellent show with intrigue, unique characters, great writing, superior acting and plenty of action. NBC pulled the plug too early on this show. Depending upon production costs, this shoe could migrate to Netflix of Hulu.
@Another Fan…..I truly hope that some studio would pick this series up because it’s way better than “The Americans”. Those who decide on killing it don’t even watch the show, relying on ratings instead, without realizing that there are too many competing shows on the same day, some of which are long-running favorites. Every new show needs time to build a following, so I pray that NBC would re-consider & bring back this show.
You can watch it online at nbc.com or on demand on your cable network nbc on demand. Amazing season finale!!!
Yes, Tanya, we watched the season finale, which is why we need the show to continue because it’s amazing.
Enjoyed the show, they need to show the rest. Just started getting very good. Didn’t give it a chance. Forget The Slap! Nbc panicked
It’s online. And on demand. Amazing season finale!!!
NBC dropped the ball on this one. There should be a “save” feature like on the voice talent shows, but here a different network could pick them up and produce Allegiance to be the winning show it is. This show has everything I like in a show: action, drama, intrigue, plot, catharsis, great characters and and great acting. But NBC pulled the plug. The crime here is in the forensics:, it was how the show was rolled out; how it was promoted, how it was introduced. As well it was put in the wrong time slot. Like the Lusitania, it… Read more »
AudioJogh….you echoed my every thought. Kudos to you, my friend.
This show is much better than the highly rated show, “The Americans”, which is going into the 4th season. The only problem that they have is intense competition for eye-balls on a crowded Thursday night. If they can shift it to Friday night, or have it earlier on Thursday night with a repeat later in the evening, I’m sure that the ratings would be so much better. The plot is outstanding and the characters are played very well, by the entire O’Connor family, especially Katya and Natalie. The Russian characters are also well-played and ruthless, like we expect them to… Read more »

I thought the show was great. I just finished watching all of the episodes on look back. I wish they would reconsider and provide us with a 2016 season. I would watch!!!
Allegiance is certainly not The Americans, but is a very watchable show ,has very sympathetic characters and let the viewers into the drama without pretence. I saw 13 episodes and yes I would watch more.
I really like Allegiance very much, i enjoyed it. Hoping it will last long, i am very when i read it has been cancelled. It will a good idea, if he could finish it
I think it was a great show I watched it I think it should have had more shows to air before making decision to cancel at 5 shows
I thought The Allegiance was a great show! It held your attention from beginning to end! I agree with the other posts, some of these shows that are being renewed are just awful. The allegiance was quality and should be given a second chance.
