The ratings for the American Crime TV show have been quite low but the anthology series has become a bit of a prestige project for ABC. It was renewed for a third season but there are only eight episodes this time. Will the numbers improve or fall lower? Will American Crime be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Stay tuned.
Season three American Crime on ABC stars Regina King, Felicity Huffman, Connor Jessup, Richard Cabral, and Benito Martinez. Recurring players include Sandra Oh, Cherry Jones, Tim DeKay, Janel Moloney, Dallas Roberts, Timothy Hutton, Lili Taylor, Ana Mulvoy-Ten, Mickaëlle X. Bizet, and Clayton Cardenas. In the story, a father named Luis Salazar (Martinez) travels illegally from Mexico into the United States. Searching for his missing son, he discovers that modern servitude is thriving in the farmlands. Living in poverty and required to pay for their own food and other essentials, what little money the workers make is paid back to their employers, and because they will forever be in debt, they can never leave. Undocumented workers aren’t the only people targeted by this system.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. What do you think? Do you like American Crime TV show on ABC? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
5/11 update: ABC has cancelled American Crime so there won’t be a fourth season. Details here.
I really believe this show should have been broadcast on HBO. It’s pure quality with the casting, writing and production. They are tense, taboo topics which are important. One reviewer mentioned I’d was too good for network television. I absolutely agree.
Don’t make anther season of the show
I watched it the first year when it ended I swore I’d never watch it again and I haven’t
I know that the show is intense and brings up hard subjects to watch. But it is so moving and incredibly well acted to keep you just hanging on each episode. I’ve learned to u derstand difficult topics and they are done so well.
The cancellation of such a progressive show just demonstrates the complete regression of the viewing public and network. What an abject shame that a superbly written, exceptionally acted, and unafraid series of subjects has been met with a reception it doesn’t deserve. I can’t believe that a banal show like American Housewife is renewed yet American Crime is silenced. Shame on everyone.
I’d love to see it picked up by HBO
American Crime has been one of the most powerful and intellectual shows on tv in a long time. I have especially appreciated that these talented actors and actresses are placed in different scenarios each season. Brilliant. I am astonished regular TV does not recognize what meaningful story lines American Crime has exposed, actually being competive with cable tv.
Best drama on TV. PLEASE renew it.
Too good for network television. I’d love to see a cable station or HBO pick this show up. Top quality all around, not like most of the poorly done show on network television today.
