During the 2019-20 season, American Housewife was the lowest-rated ABC comedy to be renewed. Meanwhile, higher-rated sitcoms like Schooled, Bless This Mess, and Single Parents were all cancelled. Is American Housewife nearing the end of its run? Will this family comedy be cancelled or renewed for season six? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
American Housewife stars Katy Mixon, Diedrich Bader, Meg Donnelly, Daniel DiMaggio, Giselle Eisenberg, and Ali Wong. The sitcom centers on Katie Otto (Mixon), a confident and unconventional mother from the wealthy town of Westport, Connecticut. Katie wants to “keep it real” stand apart from her community’s “perfect” parents and their entitled children. Katie’s logic-driven husband, Greg (Bader), supports her efforts as best he can. Together, they try to make sure that their three kids — headstrong Taylor (Donnelly), snarky Oliver (DiMaggio), and obsessive-compulsive Anna-Kat (Eisenberg) — understand their family’s old-fashioned values, so they don’t end up carbon copies of their neighbors.

What do you think? Do you like the American Housewife TV series on ABC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a sixth season?
*5/14/2021 update: American Housewife has been cancelled by ABC.
I feel like it went down because we were still kind of in the middle of a pandemic. Now that we’re in the clear they can definitely bring it back.
Loved American Housewife. Sad that it is canceled and there isn’t going to be a 6th season.
The show of March 31 was the best this season. Cliff hangers were made and I’m will to see more. Although it had slipped lately I’ll still give it a chance to see what takes place.
This year has seen a lot of changes and mostly painful. I’ve gotten use to the new Anna-Kat but the new additions to second breakfast are not the same. To many characters more so with the kids and their friends and not enough of school interaction. I like the earlier seasons when Katie had conflicts with schools/snotty moms. I don’t know if the writers have changed but the constant changing of scene’s every 20 seconds is getting old, looks more like a high school production. I wish I could say yes to a season 6 but this year has really… Read more »
This was once a very funny show but no longer. I have no idea why the people writing this think it’s funny.
The show has jumped the shark. Really sad, as it used to be one the funniest TV shows around! Now it’s just filled with new cast members, mundane, boring plotlines, unfunny PC dialogue, and no more of that biting, sarcastic wit that made the show a stand-out.
A lot of people are upset about the casting change for Anna-Kat, and I too am sorry to see Julia Butters go, but she’s an amazing actress and destined for bigger and better things, so I wish her luck.
Giselle is no slouch, as fans of “Life in Pieces” know, and I’m confident that she’ll do more than fine as the new Anna-Kat.
