Recently, we reported that all former judges for American Idol will be returning for the upcoming final season. Now, Variety is reporting the show’s original producer, Nigel Lythgoe, will also be participating in the FOX series’ send-off.
Lythgoe is a judge on FOX’s dancing competition series So You Think You Can Dance, which he co-created with Simon Fuller.
Along with Fuller, Lythgoe developed and produced Pop Idol, a UK singing competition series that began in 2001. In 2002, Lythgoe moved to the U.S. to help develop the American equivalent of Pop Idol, a.k.a. American Idol.
In 2008, Lythgoe left the series as a producer to concentrate on So You Think You Can Dance.
The final season of American Idol premieres on January 6, 2016.
From Lythgoe, in a statement to Variety:
I doubt we will ever see another television show with the same cultural and social impact as American Idol. It has also given such incredible opportunities to so many young, talented performers and changed so many lives, including my own. Consequently, I am delighted and proud to rejoin the Idol team in order to create what is sure to be one of the most memorable and spectacular finales in all of television history.”
What do you think? Will you be watching the final season of American Idol?
