The kingdom will continue its reign. According to The Hollywood Reporter, TNT has renewed Animal Kingdom for a second season.
The drama stars Ellen Barkin as Janine “Smurf” Cody, the head of a Southern California crime family. The cast also includes Finn Cole, Scott Speedman, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Daniella Alonso, and Molly Gordon.
Only a few episodes into its freshman season, the show has earned low-but-steady ratings, with an average of .41 int he 18-49 demo and 1.190 million viewers.

Animal Kingdom has signaled the new tone for TNT dramas and is moving the network in the direction we hoped it would. I’m confident that our strategy of working with high-caliber talent and then getting out of their way will continue to pay off.”

Terrific show. The character development & casting is superb. Ellen Barkin nails the part as Smurf. Didn’t miss an episode of the first season so many surprises & twists & turns. Can’t wait for season two to start.

Animal Kingdom is one of the best shows on TV. My husband and I are hooked! All of the actors are great! I read the ratings are low. TNT need to do a better job promoting it, because I don’t think a lot of people know about it. A lot of our friends are watching now because we told them about it. We love the show! Glad season 2 is on the horizon. Get the word out.

Barkin is totally believable as Smurf. Shawn Hatosy kills as his character. The dysfunction of all is integral to the show and they all do their part to that end. The heist at the base was a bit hokey but from the detectives to the shameless teacher, these story lines hold up. Let’s keep it believable and enjoy a long ride!

Smurf is phenomenal, my role in my family is similar in the fact I do everything and am surrounded by men. My youngest is my Jay, my oldest is like baz handsome and does a lot for his mommy.
