The CW has announced early renewals for eight of their current TV shows — The Flash (season two), Jane the Virgin (season two), The 100 (season three), The Originals (season three), Reign (season three), Arrow (season four), The Vampire Diaries (season seven), and Supernatural (season 11).
Of the network’s other current series, this only leaves the fate of Hart of Dixie up in the air. Season three of Beauty and the Beast doesn’t have a start date yet but it’s looking like it will have a summer run.
Here’s the press release:
THE CW PICKS UP EIGHT OF ITS CURRENT SERIES FOR 2015-2016 SEASON
Network Orders Additional Season for All Scripted Series on Its Fall 2014 Schedule
More Proven Original Series Throughout the Year, Including Fall 2015, Midseason 2016, and Summer 2016
January 11, 2015 (Pasadena, CA) – The CW Network has picked up eight of its current series for the 2015-2016 season, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW, during the network’s session at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena. In essence, The CW picked up all of the scripted series from its Fall 2014 schedule to next season.
“Each of these series have helped define what The CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative, quality programming, targeting a savvy adult audience,” said Pedowitz. “By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season’s storylines, and rolling these shows out throughout next season guarantees The CW will have more proven original series for our fall, midseason and summer 2016 line-ups.”
The series being ordered for the 2015-2016 season include ARROW (Season 4), JANE THE VIRGIN (Season 2), REIGN (Season 3), SUPERNATURAL (Season 11), THE 100 (Season 3), THE FLASH (Season 2), THE ORIGINALS (Season 3), and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (Season 7). Specific premiere dates for each series will be announced at a later time.
What do you think? Which of these shows do you think you’ll be watching next season? Do you think any of them should have been cancelled instead?
Love love the 100 one of the best shows on can hardly wait for it to come on. The only bad thing is you don’t get that many show in the season. Glad to see it will be back on.thank you very much. Peg
Supernatural,Supernatural,Supernatural
Good for CW. They renewed five of my favorite shows for another season: Supernatural, The Flash, The 100, Arrow, and Vampire Diaries. These are just fun shows, as in they are simply fantasy shows. They don’t get mired down in popular culture issues they do exactly what I watch TV for. They simply entertain. I do enjoy many other shows on other networks that are brilliant and make you think (Suits, The Americans, Madam Secretary, The Walking Dead, etc.). But for simple, enjoyable entertainment, you just cannot find a match for CW on TV. Winchester Brothers, you just keep on… Read more »
Always find it baffling that supposedly real viewers are so worried about “their” shows being renewed.
That’s part of why I find that most posts here reek of “street team”.
Since I am not capable of being in everyone’s heads or living rooms, yes “my FAVORITE SHOWS” comment stands. Not sure what you are referring to, but I am a 62 year old woman who has no “street team” and pretty much only have one other friend who likes and watches the same shows. I don’t understand your comment. I am merely happy, yes, that MY FAVORITE SHOWS got renewed. It has never happened to me before. Way to rain on a fan’s parade!!!!!! “Here” is one of the greatest websites on the internet to find lots of vetted information… Read more »
If you’re not a street-teamer, you’re making a fair impression of one I’m afraid, but the point is not that there won’t be one occasional “trufan” on tvseriesfinale, it’s that every thread gets responded to at regular intervals, even months after the original article was posted, with the exact same “this is my favorite show – I am so happy it’s renewed/don’t cancel it” message worded almost identically. Those are street-teams trying to give a false impression that flops have a lot of dedicated fans (because Marketing 101 tells you “dedicated customers” are great even though advertisers couldn’t care less… Read more »
I agree with Kate; ? Rena aren’t you being a bit too cynical? TV is entertainment after all. What entertains me may not necessarily entertain you. I accept that. But Kate is right in her observations. I like Arrow; I like The Flash, I like Reign, I like the Originals, I like the Vampire Diaries, I like Supernatural. etc.
Is there no redeeming quality for you in any of these?
My “cynicism” is caused by the steady flow of essentially identical post on articles that are far from new. When six months later you keep getting a weekly post saying “I love this show”, it’s a street-teamer doing his or her job. It doesn’t mean there aren’t an occasionally real person posting (and street-teamers are people too, or so I’m told… 😉 ) As for CW, I’m sorry to answer in the negative. There hasn’t been a single show on it since it started that was of any interest to me, which is why I hope that the rumors that… Read more »
IEEEIIII! The 100 and Supernatural stills here! And I will start seeing Reign and Arrow 🙂
Great! So happy about the renewals of 100, Flash, Arrow and Reign! Yeah!! Promo for 100 season closer scared me a bit. Honestly, you’d think Flash and Arrow had to be no-brainers, they are that good. And yet cancellations and great shows are no strangers. Thanks CW for sticking with shows the fans love!!!
CATE QIKESE YOU ARE FORGETTING THE ORIGINALS VAMPIRE DIARIES THOUS SHOWS ARE GOOD TO JTV IS THE BEST U LOVE JTV SO JTV IS NOT THE SHOW THAT YOU BOTH LIKE JUST PLEASE GIVE THAT SHOW I TRY PLEASE DO THIS FOR ME YOU ARE GETTING ME UPSET MARK PEDOWITZ WANT TO KNOW WHY YOU DON’T LIKE THAT SHOW
I just wish CW would spend some of that money it uses to create the false impression it has huge reservoirs of fans on the internet and make shows people actually watched!
Great line up for the CW. I’ve seen and enjoyed all but Jane the Virgin out of that list. I’m particularly relieved to see Reign renewed. That’s such a good show and seems to just get better all the time. The Originals has had a fabulous season as well. The Flash is another stand out for me this year, and I just realized that I might watch CW more than any other station. 🙂
For the sake of accuracy, let’s stipulate your viewership is at odds with most people as CW’s lineup is a complete ratings disaster in all its 10 hours and has been since it premiered.
Love Reign and Vampire Diaries they are both my favorite shows! The work week wouldn’t be bearable without them. So glad they are sticking around
LOVE LOVE LOVE Reign and Vampire Diaries. Please keep them coming.
Relieved to see the 100 renewed for a third season. One of my favorite shows along with Arrow.
I love the tv show REIGN. Especially being a big history fanatic I love the modern twist on the clothes but still keep some accurate
the originals is such a nice show….arrow, supernatural are also great shows….bt i dont kno wat d vampire diaries is still doing, der slhd hv cancelled it long ago. it hs definatly lost its storyline
Vampire Diaries is still by far one of the best shows on TV.
The 100 is one of the best TV shows right now! Cheers to the third season! 🙂
Supernatural has long been a favorite of mine – I think it has gotten better with each season, and the boys seem like they are a part of my family…as long as the writers keep writing great episodes, and the gang continues to do what they do so well, I’ll be here. It’s a well-oiled machine that is making history for good reason…continuing the tradition that was crystalized by Buffy (and is now a bona fide genre) with so much panache, I am so proud of this show I could hug it! You go, guys!
Since you’re a fan you’ll be mad at me for writing this and I apologize in advance, but the only “history” Supernatural is doing is longest-running-show-with-the-least-viewers.
It is a testament of the disaster the US TV industry has become under inept managers like Mark Pedowitz and Dawn Ostroff.
I have to inject some facts here. Supernatural has certainly not had huge audiences when it airs on CW, but I guarantee you that is not the only criteria they are using for renewing it. Netflix and HULU run all 9 seasons which are heavily watched by millions who only have internet, but no cable. It is also watched on TNT every weekday for the three hours it runs. I am sure these residuals and the new fans made every day have boosted its popularity. Also, if you check shows that trend in the top 50 on Imbd you find… Read more »
First thank you for the interesting and intelligent answer. 🙂 To me it has nothing to do with the new world of television viewership because what it true for CW shows is also true for all shows to a higher or lesser degree. CW can’t even enter the Top 10 networks most week. It is beat almost every night by Univision, by Fox News, USA, TNT, TBS, AMC and others. The reason it is rated so low is because they keep renewing their flops and rationalize in the press that their flops are really hits. Maybe it’s because it has… Read more »
Another note on the internet.
It’s convenient for flop-makers to say they have huge followings on the internet: they’re unaudited so that can say what they want.
Similarly, all the hubbub about Twitter “ratings” has only shown that Twitter activity is unrelated to actual viewer interest (otherwise Pretty Little Liars would have 15 million viewers!!)
Another note on the internet – In five to ten years there will no longer be cable boxes, but a form of recording or streaming internet shows because many networks are already beginning to develope their own websites. CBS and HBO are two of the most notables I know about. There are big changes on the horizon for how we watch TV. I just got the Tivo Romeo Pro and having had a TiVo many years ago, at first it was overwhelming the things that can be done on this computer. But the thing that amazes me most is that… Read more »
It’s very possible. Unlike yours, my crystal ball remains completely silent about that. 😉
I do doubt it will be in five years.
On he “plus” side, since there won’t be any audited ratings, TV will become like movies, the playground for fake, exaggerated numbers and the only flops will be shows that have lot political backing with their bosses.
Question: why are you hating on the CW so badly? It sounds to me that you used to work there and got fired and are now “trying” to take the CW down by ranting on comments.
Since you asked, the only thing I have against CW is that they keep making bad shows that flop, call them “hits” (with the blessing of a complaint media) and then renew them endlessly, crowding out potentially better shows. It’s as simple as that. I do really dislike the constant hype they spew to cover up the fact they don’t have any results worth talking about and the blatant ageism that they don’t seem to be the least embarrassed or ashamed about. But even if it were personal, would it make CW shows hits? Would it make their ageism any… Read more »
Arrow is my favorite show. Love olicity! I hope cw keeps renewing it!
