Tragedy strikes Ax Men. TVLine reports Ax Men star Gabe Rygaard was killed in a car accident last week in his home state of Washington.
Earlier this year, Rygaard announced the History series had been cancelled after nine seasons. His family’s logging company was featured in the docuseries, which chronicled the logging industry of the Pacific Northwest.
In May, Rygaard posted a message on Facebook saying there would be no 10th season of Ax Men:

I think it sad that ax men willnt be returning. So sorry to here about the loss of Gabe. My heart goes out to his family. Im going to miss the show and also Shelby.
That’s super sad I used to watch that show all the time my prayers go out to the rygaard family hopefully soon the show will return..
Certainly saddened to learn of Gabe’s passing. However I am even more saddened to learn of the cancelation of Ax Men.

Do some of you even read articles before posting? The show was cancelled before the car accident. Gabe’s death had nothing to do with the cancellation. It was a great show and I wish it would come back too. My heart goes out to Craig and the rest of the Rygard family. Gabe had some young children and it’s heartbreaking. Helluva Ax man he was.
Please bring the show back! Shelby is entertaining…lolol
Don’t know why you would cancel one of the best series on TV. You leave crap like America nose pickers or Ancient Aliens but you cancel Ax Men. Do you cancel by Iny Meany miney moe or draw straws? Everyone I know watched Ax Men guess I will have to watch Discovery Channel and not bother watching the History channel .

I loved the show Ax Men. Watched it from the first episode. Got to say tho in the beginning I hated the Rygards. But over time I took a liking to them. Sad to hear about Gabe Rygard. But that shouldn’t be a reason to cancel the show. The only two shows I like are Ax Men and Mountain Men. Shows about my kind of people. You canceled one please don’t take the other one away. So sorry to hear that Gabe Rygard passed a way at the age of 45 do to a car accident. I really enjoyed watching him & his dad. Condolences to the family & friends. Will miss watching the show, but with Babe gone, it won’t be the same. I hope Gabe’s dad is handling it ok.

It really sucks that he died but I don’t think they should cancel the whole series I really enjoyed watching all the other guys expecially Shelby and Chapman those are the ones who really made the show interesting and with that said my prayers go out to Regard

So sad to hear about Gabe. Prayers are with his family. Its really hard to hear that they are not renewing for a 10th season. This was the one show that we watched as a family. Rest in Peace Gabe!
I was like … wait I never commented on this. Then read the comment lol. I’m a Christine G too. Our family sat and watched this also. I don’t watch tv and this was a show I sat and watched every yr. i miss it a lot and I seriously miss Shelby lol.
