File this under: what took you so long, ABC? Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the late night host brought out Chris Harrison before revealing the new lead for The Bachelorette, season 13. After much teasing and stalling from Harrison, Kimmel announced the newest leading lady is 31-year-old attorney, Rachel Lindsay. Watch it, below.
Lindsay’s announcement as The Bachelorette lead for season 13 stands out for two reasons. First of all, she’s currently a final four contestant on The Bachelor, season 21, competing against Raven Gates, Vanessa Grimaldi, and Corinne Olympios for the affections of Bachelor-nation frequent-flyer, Nick Viall. Spoiler alert: looks like Rachel’s hometown date with Nick won’t live up to expectations. Most notably, though. Lindsay is the first African American lead in the ABC franchise’s long history.
Rachel Lindsay Announced as The Bachelorette for Season 13 on ABC
Ms. Lindsay says the show approached her pretty early on during her run on The Bachelor to be the next bachelorette on the sister series. She’s looking for a man who is ready to get married and start a family. She values a sense of humor and a great smile. Any takers?
What do you think? Do you watch The Bachelorette TV show? Are you surprised it took the franchise so very long to choose an African American as a series lead?
