It appears that Battle Creek has lost the ratings war. The low-rated Sunday night police series has been cancelled by CBS.
Battle Creek revolves around two mismatched law enforcement officers — Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) — who have polar opposite views of the world and end up being partners. The rest of the cast includes Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Aubrey Dollar, and Edward Fordham Jr.
The show debuted on March 1st to a disappointing 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.92 million viewers. The numbers got even worse in later weeks and has fallen to lows of a 0.7 demo rating and fewer than six million viewers.
Those numbers aren’t good enough for CBS to order a second season so they’ve now cancelled it.
There are four unaired episodes remaining and the last installment is currently scheduled to air on May 24th.
What do you think? Do you like the Battle Creek TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for season two?
One of the few shows I look forward to watching, it’s different enough to be interesting and is not saccharin sweet/idealistic. Cancellation of this and backstrom has left a huge hole in my viewing. Can’t get interested in any of the other shows.
This is a well acted, well written show, thats entertaining and just the right amount of funnny and serious. Just getting to know all the character. Not fair to cancel now!! Love NCIS, Person of Interest. But you are left with the reality of terrorism and privacy issues in the back of your mind. Cant we keep one show that leaves you feeeling entertained, wanting more, and no afterthoughts. Just entertainment:) Please reconsider.
I missed a few early shows. I caught it after the Good Wife a few weeks ago and got hooked. I love the characters and the relationships. The way they all really care for each other without showing it is touching. It is light …. not heavy and dark like other shows.
Keep It Please.
Love the show. Hope another network will pick it up
I can’t stress how deeply disappointed I am to discover that Battle Creek has been canceled! I LOVED this show! Battle Creek was well written, the chemistry was good, and it had just the right amount of humor. I recommended it to many people. Did you have to cut it off before it even had a chance to capture its audience? Must you worship the 18-49 yr. old demographics? There is so much for them to choose from, but for those of us in the 50+ category, there is a dearth of choices. Battle Creek was one show that was… Read more »
Don’t cancel battle creek it is so entertaining and I love the mayhem guy
Battle Creek was a really enjoyable show – too much else on Sunday night?
Oh come on! Bring back Battle Creek. WTF!
I love this show i can’t believe they cancelled
Really enjoyed this show–interesting characters and episodes. Just hate to lose it; was unique. Last thing we need are more reality shows and/or weird sci-fi fantasy type shows. Please try it on another night or a different time slot!!
Absolutely!!! Couldn’t agree more!!!!
Ditto – put it in a better time slot; it’s a great show.
I love the show Battle Creek, I love all the characters Russ is my favorite. Before you cancel it try changing the day or time. I am getting where I watch alot of satellite TV. Every time I get into a show I enjoy CBS cancels it
CBS keeps messing up Sunday night with the run-overs of Amazing Race and now 60 Minutes. I have to 2 hour record both Madame Sec & Good Wife just to get them all. I only “found” it because I kept watching a 2 hour recording that started on-time! If you like the show, I say lets gang up liking it on FB and complain to http://audienceservices.cbs.com/feedback/feedback.htm
This is BS for not giving a GREAT show a decent chance. Don’t they realize that a LOT of us are DVR’ing and forwarding THROUGH commercials?? It’s MAYHEM for Pete’s sake!!!!
Thanks, Beth. I did try to post the message below, but received a nasty error reply informing that the site was unavailable on my server!!!! Battle Creek was a home run. CBS would prefer that I watch utter nonsense like more “Extant”, which is just vampire junk with Flash Gordon costumes. I am not disappointed, but exhilarated, to be proven correct on watching the first episode, months ago: I predicted BC’s demise: much too intelligent, too witty, too many double entendres, far too entertaining. Nope. We need more race car driving in circles, and football, and vampires, and movies about… Read more »
In my opinion it seems quite a few of the mid seasons shows get cancelled. Guess I’ll stop watching them too. It seems every time I really like one like battle creek, it gets cancelled. No sense wasting anymore time. If I was an actor no way I’d sign on to do a mid season show. I can only hope BC will be picked up by another station that sees what a great show it is and cares about their viewers!!!
I tried and did give it a chance and I liked the actors but the relationship of their characters didn’t click with me. Neither did the stories.
No….. they can’t do this! There’s very few good tv shows left. I love this one. It goes against the norm. With odd relationships, frienamies, real life trouble, and a happy but not so happy ending. I dvr it every week. I think CBS is losing touch with what it’s viewers want. Instead of cancelling it,change the night it runs. Sunday calls for low ratings.
