It appears that Battle Creek has lost the ratings war. The low-rated Sunday night police series has been cancelled by CBS.
Battle Creek revolves around two mismatched law enforcement officers — Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) — who have polar opposite views of the world and end up being partners. The rest of the cast includes Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Aubrey Dollar, and Edward Fordham Jr.
The show debuted on March 1st to a disappointing 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.92 million viewers. The numbers got even worse in later weeks and has fallen to lows of a 0.7 demo rating and fewer than six million viewers.
Those numbers aren’t good enough for CBS to order a second season so they’ve now cancelled it.
There are four unaired episodes remaining and the last installment is currently scheduled to air on May 24th.
What do you think? Do you like the Battle Creek TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for season two?
This is by far the most intelligent and best written new show on CBS. The shared DNA with David Shore’s medical drama, House, is obvious, as are the edgy and flawed characters. This gem of a show deserves a second chance to find an audience.
We love this show. Didn’t think we would, but it’s turned out to be very good. Wish they would give it a chance.
Loved the show, sorry it is not going to be renewed. Every time I get interested in a new show, it gets cancelled. It makes me not even want to start watching any new ones. I don’t think they give them enough time to catch on with the viewers.
Love the show. Started out slow and picked up momentum. Reminiscent of Memphis Beat and CBS is making a mistake. Move it to another night, please. And exactly what will it be replaced with, another reality show or news program? Thank you!
Need a cable network to pick this up.
or hello Netflix!
They need to save this show.
Loved this show. Great actors – Milt and Russ are hilarious together. Hope they reconsider cancelling this show. Look forward to it every week.
You’re kidding! CBS keeps 2 Broke Girls and Mike & Molly but cans Battle Creek? One more reason we signed up for Netflix and now routinely surf other channels.
Give the new series a break! New ensembles sometimes take a few shows to “gel”. This one has. Admittedly, the first couple shows were not great but I’ve gotten attached to this group of characters. Sorry to see them go away so fast!
That will leave us with zero good shows. Thanks a bunch, CBS. Comments above reflect my feelings perfectly: “The show is too intelligent for CBS.” And, “Why am I not surprised… .” And “A show…far superior to the cardboard characters spouting stilted dialogue that inexplicably succeeds year after year… .” Get Battle Creek back. Please.
Hopefully battle creek goes to a different channel like fx or amc. Anywhere, six millions viewers isnt that bad.
I love battle creek, this show is great and cbs should keep airing it. I love the cast. The jokes are funny and its juat different than all the other cops shows. Cbs didnt give battle creek a chance
Why am I not surprised. I loved this show and looked forward to each new segment. I think it is time networks stopped relying on “ratings” because they are not accurate. I am not in the desirable age demographic so no one cares.
So sorry to see it cancelled. I think if it had been given more time to catch viewer’s attention, it would have improved in the ratings. Think of some other shows that took a season or two to become hits, then have had a good run. I was so hoping for a second season. I really enjoyed it and will be sorry to see it go.
Me too!
The show is too intelligent for CBS.
A show that is far superior to the cardboard characters spouting stilted dialogue that inexplicably succeeds year after year. (I’m lookin’ at you, CSI) Battle Creek has great characters, hilarious dialogue, unpredictable plots all the time. Love this show. Please do not sentence us to the usual suspects next year, CBS. Give us Battle Creek.
