What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the BET cable channel, Being Mary Jane revolves around the life of a successful Atlanta TV news anchor, Mary Jane Paul (Gabrielle Union). In season four, when Kara (Lisa Vidal) helps her land a gig as a correspondent on a national morning news show in NYC, Mary Jane makes the move to achieve her lifetime career goal of becoming a national lead anchor. Margaret Avery, Aaron D. Spears, Richard Brooks, BJ Britt Jr., Raven Goodwin, Richard Roundtree, Valarie Pettiford, Chike Okonkwo, and Michael Ealy also star.
Season Four Ratings
The fourth season of Being Mary Jane averaged a 0.36 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 860,000 viewers. Compared to last year, season four is down by 51% in the demo and down by 47% in viewers. Learn how Being Mary Jane stacks up against other BET TV shows.
On October 11, 2017, Being Mary Jane was cancelled.
Instead of a fifth season, the series will end with a 2-hour movie, date TBD.

Telly’s Take
Reportedly, BET wanted to shoot seasons four and five back-to-back (probably to save on production costs). Gabrielle Union’s contract, however, stipulated a significant break between seasons. Although the lawsuit was finally settled, there has been no word on if Being Mary Jane has or will be picked up for a fifth season. I expected BET to renew Being Mary Jane for season five (providing all parties could come to terms) but the ratings are way down. Now, I’m not so sure. You absolutely have to bring back the show… The transition to New York was great storyline and dynamics a professional women in the news world was informative and interesting. Mary Jane move to New York and a new start to her career gave the show producers an opportunity for a fresh start and an opportunity for the viewers to be a part of this new journey for her. An opportunity for us to watch her find love and a committed relationship…which is something she has always desired. at storyline could’ve let us into watching her grow as a professional woman… Read more »
Please renew great tv show
At least give it a real season 5 and tie up lose ends for all the main characters… and please, bring back Michael Ealy! The dynamic between MJ & Justin was what kept me into season 4 (part 1 and part 2)
Yes please don’t end this show now she’s found love and then also her getting pregnant too, yes love love love this show from the start
The show has definitely had it’s ups and downs. The most frustrating part of the show is MJ herself always “sabotaging” her relationships. It was so good to see her in a healthy relationship this last season and it would be nice to see her achieve her dreams. I loved this last season and I loved the dynamic between her and Justin. It would be nice to see how it plays out after his proposal they really make a great couple! PLEASE comeback for season 5

Being Mary Jane has really improved this season. It is the best night time drama on tv now!
Mary Jane & Justin has good chemistry. Last season focus on the family values. Yes, another season.
Renew good t.v show
This is the greatest show and was very sorry to season 4end like a cliff hanger. The show has such complexity delving into so many lives that people can relate to. Please have a season 5.

The family life is missing . Bring back Omar, get rid of Lee. Sen Mary Jane back to Alanta.
Yes please replace Lee with Justin. I almost stopped watching this season until Michael Ealey showed up.
Lee does not have the chemistry like Justin has. He had too many baby issues being a long distance dad.
I think that there should definitely be a season 5 of Being Mary Jane

Another season is needed love it
It is most interesting to me that people thrive on superficial drama instead of realistic drama! Actually finding yourself, finding love, letting go of taking care of everyone else and allowing your family to deal with and face their own issues! Did I like Season 1-3 yes!! But season 4 is really outlining the struggles that women face!! It may not mean that you are sharing your body with everyone or always searching for a season of some peace!
