ABC gave Black Box a straight-to-series order and ordered 13 episodes without seeing a pilot first. They held it until late in the season (typically not a good sign) on Thursdays at 10pm as a replacement for their hit show, Scandal. Will Black Box live up to expectations? Will it be a ratings success and earn a second season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
Black Box revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who’s hiding the fact that she’s bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
8/7 update: ABC has cancelled Black Box after one season.
Final season averages: 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.41 million total viewers.

Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Black Box TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a second season?

Outstanding, must-watch weekly show on my DVR record priority list. Without question a creative, humane and thoughtful program series. Please give us at least one more season…
I love this show I think it’s brilliant! Please give it another chance.
Love the show. Hate to see it end like this
I really enjoy this show, please give it a chance.
Please don’t cancel. I really enjoy this show.
Don’t cancel this show! It is so very interesting and I look forward each week to seeing it. Please come back, there were too many cliffhangers in the season finale!
You can count on this show being cancelled because these days the networks are run by people who want to have numbers the first week and if they don’t achieve them they will cancel the show. But because most people these days are either too stupid or just plain lazy will not watch anything good. This show was just starting to get into a good arc and I hope it’s not cancelled, but I never get my hopes up any longer. Thank goodness it’s not on Fox or NBC because it would be cancelled for sure!
As someone who suffers from Bipolar disorder I have been a captivated audience. I would hate to see this show leave the air at this time. I hope you will at the least give it one more season, and with luck many more to come after. The struggle Katherine has to hide her condition is so real, every day I have to decide whether to clue people in about my condition. Also it is not often that mental health issues are written in for characters whare strong and sucessful. We need more shows that remind us that mental health disorders… Read more »

I love this show please don’t cancel it.
Want to see more love it!
This show is really great and so different than many other things on TV. I hope they continue this show. It is really helping to lift the stigma of mental illness and show that it is also a physical ailment as the brain is part of the body and can suffer from a multitude of different disorders.
