It looks like the Black-ish TV show spin-off will be ordered to series, but not at ABC. Reportedly, the still untitled comedy starring Yara Shahidi, Chris Parnell, and Trevor Jackson, and guest-starring Matt Walsh, will run on Disney-ABC cable network, Freeform. Walsh will guest star on the Freeform series, because of his commitment to HBO‘s Veep.
The Black-ish spin-off had its backdoor pilot on May 3rd, in the “Liberal Arts” episode, which follows Zoey Johnson (Shahidi) off to college. The cast of the ABC parent-series also includes Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Jennifer Lewis, and Laurence Fishburne.
According to Deadline, Larry Wilmore, who had been set as showrunner and executive produced the pilot with Kenya Barris, is no longer involved in the project. The sitcom is headed to Freeform instead of ABC, because it skews younger and is a better fit on the youth-oriented cable network.
What do you think? Did you watch pilot episode? Do you plan to watch the Black-ish spin-off, if Freeform orders it to series?
It will make a amazing family show to have on Freeform ! If you good ideal for a show just put it on TV and see how good it will do!
It will be good show to have a spinoff of the show !
I did watch it and I loved “Zoe’s” timing and comic acting. The actors play smartass buffons very well, previously on 30 Rock and Veep. I’ll watch and support, assuming I can find the channel. My son’s beginning college and I currently work in higher ed, so it has additional appeal for me.
I will be watching
