Last week, CBS premiered their new Friday night cop series, Blue Bloods. This marks the return of Tom Selleck to CBS in a regular TV show. His last series for the network, Magnum PI, lasted for eight seasons. Will this one last as long or be quickly cancelled?
Blue Bloods revolves around the Reagans, a multi-generation family of New York City cops. The series stars Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, Len Cariou, and Dylan Moore.
Last week, Blue Bloods debuted to a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 13.01 million total viewers. That was enough to be the most-watched show in its timeslot and for the whole night in both categories.

By historical comparison, that’s a significant improvement in the timeslot. Last season’s sixth season premiere of Numb3rs attracted just a 1.8 in the demo and 8.10 million viewers.
CBS is no doubt very pleased with this performance and, as long as these numbers hold up week after week, it seems like Blue Bloods will be around for quite awhile. Based on a breakdown of the ratings in 15 minute increments, almost all of the people who tuned in for the premiere stayed to watch the entire episode. That’s a good indication that most of them will be back for episode two.
What do you think? Did you tune in to see Blue Bloods? Is the show worth watching or should it be cancelled?

Love Blue Bloods. Love Tom Selleck. A touch of gray a must. Love they live in Staten Island. Will Selleck be moving to NYC?
I love Blue Bloods and Tom Selleck! The interaction between the family rings true. It’s time Friday is no longer the forgotten night.
Like everyone else here, I love Tom Selleck, but somehow I don’t see him with all this family life. I see him as Jesse Stone only, but because it’s Tom, I want his series to stay !
I too love Tom Selleck. This new series is great. It seems true to life and I like the family interaction.
Please keep this show on the air!!!
We really enjoy Blue Bloods. I agree with the idea that a Friday night time slot is generally the kiss of death, but this show is worth watching. There is a great ensamble cast of characters and they get better each episode. Blue Bloods is good TV and worth watching. Keep it!
Tom Selleck energy speaks of substance that is worthwhile in a world of phony reality shows and the news replaced by news of the famous addicts. Let me go vomit.
We, also, wanted to like Tom Selleck’s new series Blue Bloods. We like him!!, but he is not a young man anymore. In the series his character has adult, working children, and he is a grandfather. So get some grey hair. It is ridiculous for him to have not a grey hair in sight. He is a handsome older man now. So show him that way. As for the show itself, the first episode was slow, but the second shows promise. Get Selleck with the character he plays.
Oh Yeah ENOUGH WITH THE REALITY CRAP!!!!
I think it’s great comparied to a lot of the “cutsie” dramas(?) that have been on or are new, like Castle, The Glades, NCIS, etc. (YEEEECCHHHEE). Is it as good as Third Watch, NYPD Blue or Law&Order series (all) maybe not but it aint bad! Keep it but we don’t need more soap opera’s.
I agree with The Jesse Stone series is much better. There really isn’t much else to watch on Friday nights. Good Luck.
I love Tom Selleck—–all he has to do is stand immobile!! It makes sense and is not a blasted reality show—–leave it on. (It is about all I watch on NBC primetime!)
I love Blue Bloods
I love Tom Selleck, but the writing in this series is horrible. We so wanted to like Blue Bloods, but after two tries, we turned the station- sorry Tom. The Jesse Stone series is ten times better.
STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH ABOVE ABOUT POOR WRITING!!!
Keep Blue Bloods. Tom Selleck is great – glad to have him back on TV.
Usually a Friday night time slot is the kiss of death for any show. Being a new show and having a Friday night time slot I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the network doesn’t pull the plug on this well written show.
