Last week, CBS premiered their new Friday night cop series, Blue Bloods. This marks the return of Tom Selleck to CBS in a regular TV show. His last series for the network, Magnum PI, lasted for eight seasons. Will this one last as long or be quickly cancelled?
Blue Bloods revolves around the Reagans, a multi-generation family of New York City cops. The series stars Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, Len Cariou, and Dylan Moore.
Last week, Blue Bloods debuted to a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 13.01 million total viewers. That was enough to be the most-watched show in its timeslot and for the whole night in both categories.

By historical comparison, that’s a significant improvement in the timeslot. Last season’s sixth season premiere of Numb3rs attracted just a 1.8 in the demo and 8.10 million viewers.
CBS is no doubt very pleased with this performance and, as long as these numbers hold up week after week, it seems like Blue Bloods will be around for quite awhile. Based on a breakdown of the ratings in 15 minute increments, almost all of the people who tuned in for the premiere stayed to watch the entire episode. That’s a good indication that most of them will be back for episode two.

I have enjoyed watching Tom Selleck’s career, including his daughters riding achievements (go for the Olympics). Blue Bloods is just another BIG TICK for Tom. Love the show and agree with Miles Mackey regarding Jesse Stone…AWESOME! WANT MORE! Just cannot get enough of a good actor these days as there isn’t anything much to choose from…only good old fashion repeats.

My husband and I have enjoyed every episode of Bluebloods. It shows the heart of a family while encompassing the drama of a crime show. We will be very disappointed if it is cancelled. All the stars are excellent and we haven’t missed a show since it started. If we’re not going to be home, we tape it. I vote to keep it!
The actors and story line are a lot better than a number of new shows and a number of older ones. This is a keeper.

Look, CBS has Tom Selleck who in my eyes will go down in history as one of THE BEST actors of all time. I was upset when they got rid of Magnum PI in the 400 am time slot a couple of months ago. If they get rid of Blue Bloods I will block CBS on my TV for good. Thank you Tom Selleck for being in my livingroom once again. Now that I have a 9 year old daughter, this will make 4 generations in my family that think you are TOPS!!!!!!!!
I watched the latest episode which aired this past Wednesday. I was happy Selleck was featured more. I really miss the family prayer though. I wonder if viewers have complained.
I love Tom Selleck and the “family” actors/actresses, but I don’t like the attitudes of the cops and I’m bored with the show. It’s wholesome enough (and trust me I’m sick of the sadistic twisted gory murder storylines of other copy shows) but there isn’t enough action. I also like Tom’s assistant – I think we finally see a real Executive Assistant here – and she is tops, but I’d like to see her in action on a day when everything hits the fan! Blue Bloods is such a redneck boring show, I can not believe it has lasted one season. Cancel it ASAP.
I love Blue Bloods. It is a great show with a terrific cast. I originally tuned in to see Tom Selleck but quickly realized that Blue Bloods has a great story to tell. I watch little television outside of sports, news and the food network, but I have to say I am hooked on Blue Bloods. I haven’t enoyed a show since 24 went off the air. I vote for CBS to keep Tom Selleck and his family on the air.
You ABSOLUTELY must keep Blue Bloods on the air!!! It is one of the very few series currently on TV with an honest to goodness story line, complex characters and suspense without the all too frequent slide into gimmicky special effects and sleezy subject matter. For all of us who enjoy a suspense-filled hour I vote for keeping BLUE BLOODS alive and on the air for a long, long time to come!!!
I really enjoy Blue Bloods. I like the entire cast, but think most highly of Tom Selleck. I also enjoy the role of Mr. Selleck as Jesse Stone and would like to watch more Jesse Stone programs. I like Jesse’s dialog — concise and easy to understand. I also admire his portrayal of a flawed cop trying to maintin his integrity and his job while fighting the bottle and his small town self serving superiors. I also identify with him trying to be rid for once and for all of his exwife who runs to him for comfort every time… Read more »
