ABC has been searching for new hit dramas to replace their older ones for some time. Lost went off the air in 2010, Brothers & Sisters was cancelled last May, and Desperate Housewives is ending next spring. Last season, Body of Proof was the only new drama that held any promise and ABC renewed it. In retrospect, was that a mistake?
Body of Proof stars Dana Delany as Doctor Megan Hunt, a former neurosurgeon who became a medical examiner after a serious car accident. Megan can be difficult to work with but won’t give up until she gets answers and expects the best from herself and her co-workers. Others in the cast include Jeri Ryan, Nicholas Bishop, Geoffrey Arend, Windell D. Middlebrooks, John Carroll Lynch, and Sonja Sohn.
The show debuted in late March 2011 to a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 13.94 million viewers. In light of the failures of ABC’s other new dramas, this one looked very promising. The rating numbers fell off pretty quickly for subsequent episodes but the first season still ended up averaging a 2.3 rating in the demo and 11.13 million viewers. Performance-wise, Body of Proof was in the middle of the pack as the eighth most-watch show of ABC’s season (out of 18 scripted series).

Last season ended with a disappointing 2.1 demo rating and this season didn’t start off much better, registering a 2.2 with 9.4 million viewers. The numbers have gotten even worse and the show has hit a series low of a 1.8 in the demo on three occasions. The seven episodes that have aired so far this season have averaged a 1.9 in the demo and 9.45 million, a decline of 17% in the demo when compared to last year’s average.
The show is currently the lowest-rated scripted series on the network. Though total viewership is fairly positive, unless the demo ratings get better, it’s hard to imagine that we’ll see ABC ordering any more episodes or a third season.
On the positive side, ABC only aired nine of the 13 installments that were produced for season one. Since the show started so late in the season, execs chose to hold the remaining four until season two. Combined with a typical second season order for 13 installments, they have 17 episodes for the 2011-12 season. Given the current numbers, that’s likely as close as Body of Proof is going to get to a full season order.
But, what do you think? Is Body of Proof still worth watching? Should ABC stick with it or just cancel it already?

Please do not cancel this show. There are so few shows on TV worth watching and the best ones keep getting cancelled.
Body Of Proof is a great show that has a great cast with chemistry when their together. The scripts for the shows are also well written. I watch Body Of Proof on DVR with my work schedule I always enjoy watching the show. ABC PLEASE DO NO CANCEL THIS SHOW YOUR NETWORK HAS A WINNER IN THIS GREAT SHOW.
I enjoy this show and actually record it at times. If you record and not watch at the airing time; would this go against it’s ratings? I’m sure there are a lot of people who record and watch later!
It’s a good show and Dana Delaney makes it! She is really good for this part.
PLEASE leave it on….I love this show!
DO NOT CANCEL BODY OF PROOF!!!!! Please!!!
I absolutely love this show and watch in my pj’s as it’s my relax night.
Please keep it going…
PLEASE DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT CANCEL ‘BODY OF PROOF ‘! I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF THIS SHOW SINCE THE 1ST EPISODE! JUST LIKE MOST IF THE COMMENTS I HAVE READ I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH…MRS. RANDY E. ZELEZNAK’S COMMENT HIT THE NAIL ON YHE HEAD! KEEP ‘BODY OF PROOF ON’!!!!!
Body of Proof should not be cancelled. All the stations have to offer is mindless reality shows and filth. Most on at primetime. Body of Proof is interesting and the acting is superb. Please leave something on that people with brain activity and good morals can watch.
Please DO NOT cancel this show! It’s one of my favorites! I’m a bit concerned that “Private Practice” aired in its place last night. I was NOT HAPPY about that. Please reconsider, and give this show a fair chance!
Keep this show. It is great
I would like to know how tv ratings are really determined. How could a show this good be even considered to get cancelled???? Are the same people who are rating tv shows the ones who watch family guy….and other such low class nonsense?? And then when great shows like this get close to the chopping block we have to see the horrific special effects like Danny getting hit by a train….come on….I pay a lot for cable and put up with a mulitude of worthless shows ….leave ones like this alone!!!!
I hope they renew the show. It´s soooo good!!
Please renew this show
I HAVE ENJOYED THE SHOW VERY MUCH AND I HOPE THEY DO CONTINUE THE SHOW NEXT SEASON.
ABC had BEST leave ‘Body of Proof’ on the air and in ‘infinite’ current episodic production! It’s a riveting, engaging, deftly acted ensemble drama which ALSO has the ability to reach teenagers (Meaghan’s daughter Lacey!), murder/mystery buffs, serialized non-comedic-show buffs, science buffs, medicine buffs … COME ON!!! WHY does ABC ALWAYS mess around with ‘good’ shows and then put drivel like GCB on and also really push peope to watch it, but never EVER gets behind great shows like Body of Proof?!?!?! LEAVE Body of Proof ALONE – KEEP IT ON THE AIR – MAKE MORE EPISODES FOR THIS SEASON… Read more »
