Blue Bloods had a very successful and long run on CBS, all the more impressive because the series aired late on Friday nights, when viewership is often quite low. That beloved series has ended but one of the show’s main characters is back in his own show, Boston Blue. Will this spin-off also have a long run or, quickly run out of gas without the rest of the Reagan clan? Will Boston Blue be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A police procedural series, the Boston Blue TV show was developed by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis. A spin-off of Blue Bloods, the series stars Donnie Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green, Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, Marcus Scribner, and Mika Amonsen. Bridget Moynahan guests. In the story, Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) leaves NYC and takes a position with the Boston Police Department. He’s paired with detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. The Silver family also includes Boston district attorney Mae Silver (Reuben), police superintendent Sarah Silver (Lawson), rookie cop Jonah Silver (Scribner), and renowned Baptist pastor Reverend Edwin Peters (Hudson). As Reagan settles into his new city, he hopes to reconnect with his younger son, Sean (Amonsen), who is beginning his own career in Boston.
Nielsen Ratings
The Nielsen ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances of survival. This chart is updated as new ratings data becomes available.
11/26 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.

What do you think? Do you like the Boston Blue TV series on CBS? Are you glad it has been renewed for a second season?

This show can’t compare with Boston Blue, which was probably my all-time favorite show. Except for Danny Reagan & Gloria Rueben, the cast is second rate to say the least. The fact that they changed from a Catholic family to a Jewish/Baptist (whatever) family is ridiculous. Bring back the Reagans, please!! This show is not at all what I expected. I’ll watch for now, but I’m sad.
I agree it doesn’t have the same vibe as Blue Bloods I watched last night and thought maybe it was a little better but I’m still having trouble following along seems like it is hard to keep track. I don’t care mu ch for the actors and think that they could of done better with casting. They just don’t have the contection that the Reagan family and the story line just isn’t there. CBS should of not been so cheap and left Blue Bloods on which was a top running show and people wanted it.I give Donny credit for trying… Read more »
I was a huge fan of Blue Bloods. I watched the first episode of Boston Blue and wasn’t impressed. I started the second episode and turned it off after 30 minutes. Skipped the third episide, which I would never have done with Blue Bloods. Tried watching the fourth episode tonight and turned it off after 10 minutes. I’m done. I ask myself why, with all the story lines available to a creative writer, did they copy Blue Bloods, using unbelievable characters, amateurish actors, and stale plots? Danny should have exercised more creative control and refused to participate in this debacle.
It’s not Blue Bloods But I like it let’s give it a fair chance, story lines needs to improve a bit. But I get the premise Sometimes it takes more than a handful of episodes before passing judgement so yes I would renew it for a 2nd season But far as Blue Bloods it’s in a class by itself.
Boston blue is not worthy…Story line is hard to keep track…bring back Blue Bloods
Aside from ever steady Donny, THE REST OF THE CAST are very unimpressive. There is ZERO CHEMISTRY and the dialogue is elementary school level. The actors who play Sean and Jonah are straight out of First Year Acting Class from a basement Acting School in Podunk, Minnesota. Second episode is even more brutal.
Well, I thought DEI was dead but apparently CBS cancelled a solid performing show in order to check every box they could think of when casting the show.
And the network didn’t realize THE FAMILY was the star of Blue Bloods, not Donnie Wahlberg.
Hard pass on this poor excuse of a spinoff.
I loved every episode of Blue Bloods, and was sad when it ended. I looked forward to seeing a quality spinoff with many of the original cast. After watching the 1st episode, Boston Blue just felt like a watered down, recycled, overly “woke” rendition of a cherished original, and even though Donnie’s acting was great, it wasn’t enough to carry the show.
Maybe the show will improve, but at this point, I opine that it will be short lived due to poor ratings.
Cartoonishly multicultural ! It’s like an SNL spoof of a real show.
Just not the same. That family dynamic on Blue bloods was so much more interesting. These characters just don’t mesh well. Not the same. My wife and I were disappointed. Even with the recast of Sean. I don’t think this one’s gonna last. That cast in Blue bloods was so strong. They worked so well together.
A pretty good start . I think it can work . Notice a diversified cast . That makes it more life like .
I do not like Boston Blue. You left to much hanging in the air as far as Blue Bloods is concerned. You should not have cancelled Blue Bloods. Especially since the characters wanted it to continue. I will not be watching Boston Blue. If SVU can continue for 20 + seasons then you should’ve had enough material to continue Blue Bloods. How sad for you.
This show is going nowhere FAST . . . NOT feeling it. They are trying to placate everyone they can . . . Bad premise and it probably won’t work
CBS should stop being CHEAP and just bring BlueBloods back for more seasons. Trying to convince viewers that Danny suddenly leaves the entire Reagan family behind in NYC, is both silly and stupid. Out of character.
CBS now stand for Cheap Broadcast System
Doesn’t have the same vibe They turned into a chic flick So sad
