In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

I am so upset! This was one of the best family shows on tv. I personally think desperate housewives should have been the one to be canceled. I am hoping it could be reversed, as many people could relate to that show more than Desp.
I absolutely think it was time to go. My wife is a liberal and I tolerated the show but it got to a point that I couldn’t even be in the same room with the show on. Horrible family values on that show.

I would have much rather Desperate Housewives say goodbye. They have just gotten ridiculous with their storylines. I enjoyed Brothers and Sisters much more. Just keep on cancelling our shows that we love and no more ABC programming at my house. You have already broken my heart by cancelling All My Children. We really must be living in the end times!!!!
Are you serious? I am so disappointed! I enjoyed this show very much and was a fan for all seasons, imagine this another good show taken off the air! Shame on them!
if anything should have cancelled its desperate houswives. that show is getting worse and worse and running out of story lines. there is always the death the wives have to hide…. the betrayals… the sickness…. end that and leave brothers and sisters. I will miss this show dearly and am boycotting that idiotic houswives.
I’m devestated that Brothers and Sisters was cancelled. The very least that ABC can do is give them a season six to really wrap up the season and give it a classic farewell. ABC is quickly becoming my least favorite network as all their decisions have been very bad ones as of late! This show was one of my favorites. 🙁
It seems like every time a quality TV show comes on with family interest – one that deals with the dynamics of real people in real situations with good acting, it gets cancelled for some show that appeals to a “lesser” intellect. Ugly Betty had a large appeal from many people i knew and yet it got replaced by a show that I consider to be rather stupid. It certainly doesn’t make you think or feel. Just like the networks. When a great show struggles some the cut it. What they don’t realize is that when they start skipping weeks or whatever they do that stops the show from showing each week, people lose the interest in trying to stay on top of each episode. I for one hate when the network keeps preempting shows or showing reruns one week and new episodes the next. This is the reason I try not to get to involved in too many shows. This STINKS! I love this show so much! It is my favorite show of the week….I really hope the network changes their minds! I’m so sad today….:(
I am real sad that it was cancelled but suspected it was not coming back with the ending of the season show. So I guess we will never know if Kitty decided to keep her baby or what the future held for the youngest Walker for his love interest ….. It was one of my fav shows….
I CAN’T BELIEVE IT! JUST WHEN THINGS GET MORE INTERESTING. ABC YOU JUST LOST ANOTHER ONE. I ALREADY QUIT WATCHING DESP. H.W. THAT STORY LINE “REALLY” I THINK YOU PICKED THE WRONG ONE. BACK TO BOOKS AND DVD’S, THOUGH FOX AND HALLMARK AREN’T TO BAD, THOSE REALITY SHOW “SERIOUSLY” LIKE THERE SUPPOSE TO BE INTERTAINING. I am VERY sad to see this show go! It was one of my favorites!!! It’s full of great truths of todays big families. Please bring it back!!!!!
