Starz has decided to cancel their Camelot TV series after one season. While the ratings weren’t bad for the Arthurian show, the numbers aren’t necessarily the whole reason why there won’t be a second season.
Camelot, as you might have guessed, is based on the legend of King Arthur. The series stars Jamie Campbell Bower as a young King Arthur, with Joseph Fiennes as Merlin, Eva Green as Morgan, and Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere.
The premiere attracted 1.1 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That marked the cable channel’s most-watched and highest-rated original series premiere to date. Unfortunately, the second installment dropped 24% in total viewership and subsequent episodes dropped even further. Still, by the end of the season, the ratings were on an upswing. The finale nearly matching the viewership of the premiere.
While Camelot may have ordinarily ended up getting a renewal from Starz, the ratings weren’t the only factor in play.
A statement from a Starz representative notes, “Due to significant production challenges, Starz has decided not to exercise the option for subsequent seasons of Camelot with our production partners GK-tv, Octagon Films and Take 5 Productions.” Deadline reports that some of those “challenges” included scheduling conflicts with some of the actors.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Camelot has been cancelled? Would you have liked to have seen a second season?

Between all of Cable Tv’s series’ we (my entire family) are very disappointed to loose Camelot. Every since Spartacus, we have found excitement and have come to thrive on this new genre of action series’. Please bring back Young Arthur or at least give us some clue to what happens. Talk about a Cliffhanger 🙁 – – – – – – – – – im ready to jump!
Soon sad….really liked the show.
I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT CAMELOT IS BEING CANCELLED. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SEASON.
I bought the dvd for the series. I find the cost of sattelite TV a bit much. Being out of the demographic that counts I can remember a time when they told us cable etc. would eliminate commercials and offer more choices. HA!!! Anyway, Camelot was quite a creative plot, tilted a bit too much towards the darker side, but interesting. The acting was very good, and the filming was superb. I felt like I was seeing medieval England in all its primitive splendor or lack of it. Eva Green may have been the all-time Villainess in her portrayal of… Read more »
No! They can’t cancel it! This is my favourite show! They dissapointed the fans canceling it!
While cast scheduling and ratings issues are significant problems/concerns the upswing in viewers later in the season is a positive sign. It takes time for the buzz to build and the rich range of possibilities for storylines while redefining and refining one of the world’s most widely recognized myths, combined with the strong cast and writing, beg for a continuation of the series. In addition it seems odd that Starz would walk away from an opportunity to leverage the undeniable quality of their production into a ranking among the most prestigous cable channels. In addition I really liked how the… Read more »
absolutely sad to see it go — I thoroughly enjoyed Season 1 and was looking forward to a 2nd season, why do they do this, they did this to Merlin but fan based uproar brought Merlin back to Canada
Camelot fast became one of my favorites to look forward to each week….now they cancel it ??? you pay for a channel and this is what they do to you….what a waste….”BRING US BACK TO CAMELOT ” and get rid of the shows that really deserve to be dropped……
I definitely loved the show and still have all of the episodes on my DVR. If they are having trouble with scheduling some of the actors, they should replace them. I am really sad the show will not continue and I REALLY hope they can find a way to bring it back!! TV Gods, I hope you are reading. 🙂
Pure stupidity, Stars needs to give it a shot or at least rap it up. Duh! Not to
mention they change the Spartacus actor, I am truly disappointed. Spartacus and camelto were the only reason for keeping my subscription.
“Spartacus and Camelto” the new STARZ SUPER HEROES! So is this why they cancelled Camelot? To make room for the new Superhero series?
LOL
I am truly disappointed to lose Camelot. Jokes make it not hurt as much. . .
and btw they didnt just “change” the Spartacus actor, Andy DIED. Huge difference in “schedule conflicts vs. DEATH conflicts. Not to mention the Spartacus fan base prolly quadruples Camelot
The only reason I kept starz was for this show. If they are talking about scheduling conflicts with Jamie cambell-Bower, Twilight is done so that should clear up. This was/is a great show and I am dissapointed that they let the fans down by cancelling. I do agree that the story needs to be wrapped up for the fans.
I am really bummed this was a great show does only the mindless dribble stay on..Starz screwed up I am cancelling my subscription.
We watched the whole of Season 1 between yesterday and today, loving every minute of it, constantly commenting on how wonderful it was, how excellent the acting, how stunning the costumes and the sets, and this evening rushed to Google the release date of Season 2, only to be BITTERLY disappointed at its cancellation!!!
How awful!!!
Please tell us they will reconsider?
I really hate it when a show is cancelled when the last show does not bring the story to an end but leaves the audience hanging because it was produced anticipating another season to continue the story line! I think it should be a requirement that when that happens the producers must bring the show back for enough episodes (make it a miniseries, or even a TV movie) to wrap up the story!
I really liked the show. Hate to hear it is canceled. It was one of my favorites.
