Starz has decided to cancel their Camelot TV series after one season. While the ratings weren’t bad for the Arthurian show, the numbers aren’t necessarily the whole reason why there won’t be a second season.
Camelot, as you might have guessed, is based on the legend of King Arthur. The series stars Jamie Campbell Bower as a young King Arthur, with Joseph Fiennes as Merlin, Eva Green as Morgan, and Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere.
The premiere attracted 1.1 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That marked the cable channel’s most-watched and highest-rated original series premiere to date. Unfortunately, the second installment dropped 24% in total viewership and subsequent episodes dropped even further. Still, by the end of the season, the ratings were on an upswing. The finale nearly matching the viewership of the premiere.
While Camelot may have ordinarily ended up getting a renewal from Starz, the ratings weren’t the only factor in play.
A statement from a Starz representative notes, “Due to significant production challenges, Starz has decided not to exercise the option for subsequent seasons of Camelot with our production partners GK-tv, Octagon Films and Take 5 Productions.” Deadline reports that some of those “challenges” included scheduling conflicts with some of the actors.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Camelot has been cancelled? Would you have liked to have seen a second season?

I love this show. It’s a shame that an amazing, quality show like this gets cancelled while other horrible shows go on for year after year. The actors are great, and really made us believe in them.
I definitely would have watched a second season. The whole idea of the rise of Mordrid and of course the search for the Holy Grail. The writers were excellent at cliff hanger endings. I watched the whole season in one evening, I just couldn’t quit! I’m in hopes that one day Starz will review their decision and bring it back if only to resolve the stories of the Arthur legend.
Great series and I believe if Starz would of released it at a different time where it wasn’t having to compete against game of thrones there would have been more seasons for everyone too enjoy
Hi there yes would have loved to see the second season of Cannot. I got the first series from the llibrary where I live and have fallen in love with the whole of the first season. Very saddened by the conselation of the show. The plot was strong and held my attention though out, love the regional thought of the set design, and location it was warm and hunting all at the same time. The clothING was splinted and made the characters believable with no voice over to still the show. Loved it and Am hoping to see moor of… Read more »
I absolutely loved Camelot! So much so that I ordered the series dvds. That show was so well set up for a second season. WHY did you cancel it ??!!!
I just finished watching this series on HULU. Great entertainment! Why start a series just to scatch the rest of it. Too sad! Wish it could continue at some point.
I love the show just watched it on Hulu in one. Day wish there was a second. S
Its an amazing series i really hope to for season 2
How can you cancel season two with such an open-ending.
The material you have for season 2 is so amazing and it is really disappointing to hear that you cancel the second season.
I hope you will recall what you said and renew the series because you really let me down.
Please due a second and third and so on! Loved this show!!
i loved the script and the whole idea hidden in the story, it was unique…i would definitely be smitten in love if the season 2 would back with lot of piquancy in it. Don’t disappoint your aficionados by taking the worst decision.
Look at the huge number of producers from different firms with different warring agendas: Too many cooks spoiled the broth. The soft-core porn is fine (to adults like me) but kills the family viewing and probably cut the ratings in half, killing the show. They miscast the main character of Arthur, by using a modern mama’s boy actor. He is not a believable alpha male of Dark Ages England of 580AD. Eva Green’s acting is wonderful but most of the others seem to ham it up, to make up for 2-D dialog right out of a kiddie movie, in this… Read more »
You’re right, the soft-core porn really kills the viewership, as seen with disasters such as Game of Thrones, Westworld, Billions, Entourage, The Sopranos, etc.
Thinking u have a tilted view of things I thought the show was a hit and Im saddened by the loss of it.
Loved the soft porn.
After Hour hit.
However it did mess with the ratings for family viewing yet is was nice to have show for adults….
I just got done watching Camelot on hulu. To have ended it with Morgan using a different face to get pregnant, only makes you want to see what happens next. Should have continued the legend, but as a fan I know that isn’t going to happen.
I just finished watching Season One tonight April 11, 2017 and when I went to see why there wasn’t a Season Two, I found out it was cancelled!!! WTF?
I agree with Desiree, I just finished watching Season 1 on HULU & now I’m like WTH? Did that nasty Morgan get pregnant by her brother?! How could Merlin not tell Arthur about Morgans ability to shape shift? So much left undone.
Bring it back!
