Starz has decided to cancel their Camelot TV series after one season. While the ratings weren’t bad for the Arthurian show, the numbers aren’t necessarily the whole reason why there won’t be a second season.
Camelot, as you might have guessed, is based on the legend of King Arthur. The series stars Jamie Campbell Bower as a young King Arthur, with Joseph Fiennes as Merlin, Eva Green as Morgan, and Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere.
The premiere attracted 1.1 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That marked the cable channel’s most-watched and highest-rated original series premiere to date. Unfortunately, the second installment dropped 24% in total viewership and subsequent episodes dropped even further. Still, by the end of the season, the ratings were on an upswing. The finale nearly matching the viewership of the premiere.
While Camelot may have ordinarily ended up getting a renewal from Starz, the ratings weren’t the only factor in play.
A statement from a Starz representative notes, “Due to significant production challenges, Starz has decided not to exercise the option for subsequent seasons of Camelot with our production partners GK-tv, Octagon Films and Take 5 Productions.” Deadline reports that some of those “challenges” included scheduling conflicts with some of the actors.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Camelot has been cancelled? Would you have liked to have seen a second season?

I just finish watching first season of camelot and loved it like everyone else here. I think it is so disappointing that the show is been cancelled already. 🙁 Would have loved if it had stayed on at least one season more so we could have seen more to all the unfinished parts..
this happens every year, i find a show i like and they cancel it.
I’m very disappointed in Starz cancelling this show!! So much so, that I probably won’t invest my time viewing any more of their productions!!! They didn’t even finish it off properly! Leaving it on a Cliffhanger is unfair to viewers. You know I didn’t think Jamie Campbell Bower would make a good Arthur, being so young, but he was AWESOME in that role. You could see the character growing in strength and it was a joy to see. The acting, production and music were fabulous! Really don’t understand how anyone can invest so much, and then drop it like a… Read more »
What-a-load-a-bs!!!!!!! How can
They do this?!?! When so many people love the
Show and clearly loads of people are gonna
Cancel their subscriptions to starz, good
Shows are always cancelled because all the
Producers and stuff care about is money, not the
Actual viewers. STARZ SUCK!
Wow,
Figures a high end network like stars would cancel a good show. A show with a real plotline, good acting, effects, and intrigue. Just when it was getting extremely in depth (leontus dying, merlin leaving, etc)
They probably had to make room for ANOTHER dumb reality show… The death of good television. Thanks stars, you suck!
Thats bs. Obviously the show was popular. On top of everything else they ENDED the season to continue on….Bring it back please!
BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!! BRING BACK CAMELOT!!!
PLEASE BRING CAMELOT FOR A SEASON 2
SHOW WAS PICKING UP MOMENTUM!!!
It never fails that the viewer is the last to be considered by the producers. The audience is dying for thoughtful, cerebral, well-made and in-depth stories, which are fewer and farther between. It seems the powers that be target the lowest common denominator, thinking that by pandering to the mouth-breathers will ensure viewership. Well, here’s a news flash: we were just beginning to consider Starz as our premium channel, but that ship has now sailed. Bring back Camelot and finish the job and maybe we’ll reconsider.
Found this show on Netflix and would have had to subscribe to Starz to see Season 2 as soon as possible. Guess that won’t be happening…. or could it? Is there any future chance Starz would reconsider? Yeah, it might take some work but the good things always do! They have the chance to redo this…. up to them and we get to see what Starz is made of. To host Season 1 and not have Season 2, when the ratings were well enough…..tacky tacky tacky. Viewers don’t like getting hooked on shows and having them cancelled early. Starz is… Read more »
Totally agree it was picking up good momentum and intrigue…lots of scope for this….I don’t like this ‘rating’ based decision and if there are scheduling conflicts adding to the factors then Starz should have had the foresight to either make it a one season or feature length with completion….however I would have liked to see this continue….I suppose it fell to YET MORE crime/detective related or something……maybe not but this genre ends up causing concern to its makers when it’s actually a reliable type…LOTR, Potter, Merlin….need to go on?
Please reconsider bringing back Camelot for a second season. If not on starz at least on another network. It was a great story that was picking up momentum.
That is really too bad – a great show! Why do all the good ones get cancelled?
hear hear!
I don’t watch tv but ordered starz when this series started. I have no purpose for it anymore. So long starz hope you get your BALLS BACK….oh wait that would require getting CAMELOT back….ooops guess you never will see your balls again like the veiwers will never see this terrific show again. Oh and guess what I am cancelling starz ASAP.
yeah!!!!! one of the best series ever! SHAME on yo starz, and who ever else involved……
Well I canceled my starz package when I found out that there would not be a second season. Does that tell starz how I feel. I would be compelled to reorder if they changed their minds, but we all know that isn’t going to happen. It’s as great as Hero’s the tv series and we all loved it but it was flushed down the toilet too. What a way to kill a great show.
Goodbye starz
