Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
My wife and I enjoyed Cedar Cove. It was a compromise between what I like and what she likes to see. It’s a real disappointment that there will be no resolution to the story. But here’s a thought: A 2-hour TV movie to wrap up all the loose ends. How about it, Hallmark?
So sorry to hear of the cancellation of one of my favorite TV shows. My husband and I looked forward to the new season as we are huge Hallmark Channel fans. We are hoping you will have a change of heart.
Very disappointed. ..this was one of my favorite shows and to leave us hanging like that? So unfair to all of your devoted Hallmark fans!!!
There are so many downright awful shows on TV that it was a delight to look forward to watching a beautiful, well done, clean show. Pure entertainment. Please reconsider and bring it back!!
Unbelievable! Hallmark has been one of the few cable channels I could count on for clean, good, family entertainment. And now one of my favorite shows has disappeared overnight. I am so disappointed in your decision not to renew the Cedar Cove series. A bad move on your part. Please reconsider!
Very sad this show is not returning. One of my favorites. I’m sure it will be replaced with another reality show. The very least you could do is give us an ending. Hallmark was one of the few channels I watch. Rethinking that. Why cancel the best shows.
I have been looking for new installments for Cedar Cove and am disappointed they have cancelled a family oriented show. Maybe Netflix will pick it up hopefully, it was a wonderful show.
So very sad that Cedar Cove has been cancelled. I looked forward to it every Saturday evening. Such a beautiful escape from the crappy reality shows that seem to be on every channel these days.
I am very disappointed that Cedar Cove has been cancelled and there will not be a 4th season. It was a great show, and although I don’t have access to the Hallmark Channel I was purchasing the DVDs as soon as they were available. I loved seeing what was going on although for me it was truly a whole year in between the seasons because I had to wait for it to come out on dvd.
I am not surprised that Cedar Cove has been cancelled. After the first two seasons, it barely maintained my interest: flat character development, shallow storyline, evil overcoming goodness ALWAYS, a dismal respite when a viewer attempts to escape the humdrum and even violent real world after a hard day’s work!
Please reconsider and do not cancel this show. I agree you needed to end the stories before you cancelled the series.
So sad to hear the show is cancelled. It was my favorite and I just looked it up today to see when it was coming back on. Seems like you could have at least had an ending and not leave everyone hanging from the last season. So disappointed. Seem like all decent, normal shows are going away!!!!!
Please, please return cedar cove for the final season and give viewers an ending. It is not right to cancel the series and not give us an ending. It was such a good show when so many of today’s shows aren’t worth tuning in to!
It is so disappointing that this series was cancelled. Our family thinks it’s a total 10!!!
We would have rated it if we had known that made a difference as would a ton of other people.
Please reconsider!!!
Just realized we have been waiting & waiting on a show that’s not coming back! Our family & friends loved this show! How can you start a series & just abandoned those of us who faithfully watch Hallmark!! We absolutely love Cedar Cove!
We keep cable for Hallmark, reconsidering that choice! Heart broke in Georgia!!
Very disappointed Cedar Cove cancelled. I am curious, does DVRing a show is included in ratings? I record a lot of shows & never missed an episode. Could that be why the ratings go down? Plus we viewers have to be on our toes to see when a series starts again or miss out.
