Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I think you should have a 2 hr movie ending the series then .I really enjoyed the show.
I loved Cedar Cove!! I was so disappointed to see that it was cancelled. This show was one of the few that I would never miss week after week. I always hated when it was the end of the season and knew that I would have to wait a year before I could find out what would happen next. The cast was awesome. They would make you feel like you were a part of their family and friendship circle. The show had over a million and a half viewers. It’s a shame that the network didn’t find that number of… Read more »
The way they canceled this show with no warning and leaving some many loose ends makes me wonder when they will do the same with the other shows…like when calls the heart.
I was disappointed to read Cedar Cove has been cancelled. I really enjoyed it and turned my friends on to the show and Hallmark Channel. Time slot may have been the reason for the drop in viewers. Please still consider it for a fill in show between seasons.
While I did think the show regressed with each season, I do not feel “the heart of TV” channel should have canceled the show without some kind of resolution for each of the characters. Hallmark doesn’t have much of a “heart” after all.
I was so disappointed to find out that this show was cancelled. Is it possible for you to do a. 3-4 episode finale?
I was very disappointed to hear that Cedar Cove series was cancelled. I enjoyed living vicariously through the lives of the residents of Cedar Cove. I would have liked to see a final episode.
At least Hallmark could have done a final season and if that’s too much to ask then a final season with a few less episodes. That’s what the major networks have been doing.
I am so disappointed to hear Cedar Cove was cancelled. I love the show and the characters, and look so forward to it every summer. It’s the best series on Hallmark, the only one that is real and has interesting story lines. I know a lot of people who watch it and can’t believe we won’t find out what happens to the people we’ve come to kmow and love. Bad call in my opinion.
I was shocked to hear that the show was cancelled. I was looking forward to seeing the show in July. Loved the show and the characters. I would have liked to see what happened to Olivia.
I was shocked to hear that the show was cancelled. Was looking forward to seeing it in July. Loved the show and characters. I would have liked to see what happened to Olivia.
knowing the books well, I was very disappointed in the series. The storylines were unnecessarily convoluted, often saccharine in the extreme and the editing was extraordinarily choppy. Hallmark can do much better than this, and made the right decision in cancelling the series
I agree. There was too much change from the books and I never felt Andie McDowell was right as Olivia. She was stilted and that “L’Oreal hair” looked terrible. Since she was one of the “Executive Producers,” I assume this meant financial sponsorship, along with the role. The first year Olivia’s mother, who seems a very classy lady in the books, was terrible and wasn’t brought back. I did continue to watch because I wanted to see the other story lines and maybe there were just too many to include. Would have liked to see some conclusion
Exactly how many times did you truly follow this show? I really doubt that you watched more than a few episodes, or you wouldn’t have written such a put down about a wonderful show!
Please bring Cedar Cove back, a great family show
Very disappointing!! I just found out it was returning. A good wholesome show. Seems shows like this can’t stay.
Enjoyed Cedar Cove. Wish you would have wrapped up the story lines.
