Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Very disappointed in the show being cancelled without closure!
I was very disappointed. I got expanded channels just to get to see cedar cove. It inspired me. Was nice to have such awonderful wholesome, doing the right thing kind of show. Disappointed
I loved Cedar Cove. Not having a 4th season to wrap things up is like not finishing a book and never knowing the ending
I loved Cedar Cove!!! It is a good wholesome show that was for family night tv watching. So saddened to learn show was cancelled!
I love Cedar Cove; never missed an episode. It would have been nice to have a 4th season to wrap up all the loose ends.
I am very disappointed that Cedar Cove was cancelled, especially by leaving things unresolved. I hope you reconsider airing a fourth season! Even a few last shows would have been better than nothing!
I just came on the website to find out when I would be able to tune in to Cedar Cove again, and got the disappointing news! I already left one comment, but I am so angry, I had to leave another! It was such a refreshing show that I looked forward to each week. The scenery was breath-taking as well. Great actors, great story line – How could you cancel it? PLEASE reconsider and bring it back.
Perfectly stated!
I am soooooooo disappointed to hear it has been cancelled. That was my favorite show, and I don’t like how so many things were left hanging. Not a very good way to treat your audience! Please reconsider, and bring it back. My Saturdays won’t be the same without it. I really liked that show, and it was different than all the movies about people getting married! It was a quality show – why would you cancel it???
I wish you had completed with the 4th season to know what happened to everyone:)
Looked forward to another season. My wife and I enjoyed it together.
I think Cedar Cove should have followed Debbie Macomber’s books more closely. There were too many characters introduced into the show, veered too much from the book, and mostly ended badly each season. I will miss it though and I agree they should have an episode to tie up loose ends.
Love Love Love this show. So sad the way it ended with No Closer. So Disappointed in Hallmark.
I’m very disappointed that Cedar Cove won’t be returning! At the very least there should have been an episode or two to tie up loose ends!
PLEEEEEASE DO NOT CANCEL CEDAR COVE!!! I have been a fan from the very beginning…been waiting patiently for Season 4 as have soooo many other fans. At the very least, film a few more episodes to provide closure for the fans. Leaving faithful fans hanging is not an act I would have expected from Hallmark. I am extremely disappointed.
I don’t think that Cedar Cove should have been cancelled. It was one of the better shows on TV. Perhaps the numbers would have been better if there hadn’t been the significant gaps of time between each season. The other Hallmark Channel offerings are reruns of movies or a Christmas season of movies that goes on for months. Bad decision to cancel Cedar Cove.
