Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Such a wonderful show. I only just discovered it.
Not a big fan of Hallmark, because the shows are mostly all the same story line and general theme, not innovative or exciting, and so often with that oboe music accompanying every dialogue. I get there is a fan base. When my wife found it Cove was on Netflix, we decided to watch, and got hooked on it, primarily because it had a real storyline we could sink our teeth into. When we saw it was only for three seasons, we thought it was too much for that talented ensemble to remain together. If that is not the reason, Hallmark… Read more »
I want to know what happens! My husband and I just found it on Netflix and can’t stop watching it. All day on Saturday and the weekend. You should pick it up again and run it on Netflix at least. Something draws you into this show and you seriously can’t stop watching it and I love the location. It is absolutely gorgeous and I want to move from my little town in the Midwest to theirs. Please bring it back at least long enough to tie up the loose ends.
There is nothing worse than getting to love a series and then all of a sudden it is gone with no ending
It is a huge shame that we don’t get to see the ending of such beautiful story!
I loved the series. I cannot believe it is ending like this.
Yes perhaps Netflix will pick it up, of coarse the actors may have moved on by now.
My family enjoyed watching it together, enough to search the new season schedule. Halmark channel is always on in my house, now we have hallmark movie channel. The fact that it cancelled suddenly without closure, I am hesitant to get interested in another Halmark series. We were discussing this at work and several other coworkers are saying the same thing.
should be one more season
Really disappointed!!! Just finished watching all 3 seasons on Netflix. If I knew the viewer would be left with so many questions, I would not have gotten involved. Shame on Hallmark. It leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
I just finished season 3, hoping they would tie it up better. I think the series was good, but the last season dragged on and on, so I was hoping that it would end better. Such a waste of time to invest in this series when at the end, there really wasn’t an end.
Please let me know which book picks up where the tv series ended
You won’t find closure to the TV series by reading the books. Sorry. I checked the books out of the library for that purpose, and have read 10 of the 12. Although most of the characters are the same, the story lines are different. However, if you do read all the books, you will find closure to THOSE storylines, which may enable you to get over your disappointment of the TV series ending so abruptly.
I just finished last episode today and was heartbroken when I there was no closure with a finale.
I flew to Deep Cove, B.C. this week, where a lot of the series was filmed. It was beautiful!
I’ve always watched movies from thi network and enjoyed most of them.Would have been nice to have had an endingto Cedar Cove. Will think twice about getting involved watching any more series on this network. I feel like it was a lot of my time wasted. I would be pleased to see another network pick up the show.
Disappointed that show was cancelled. You follow characters for years and we have no closure
