Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
The town newspaper reporter Jack lead to the cancellation in my opinion.
Love the series. Please bring it back.
You should have never cancelled Cedar Cove!
You should have never cancelled this! Guess I will have to read the books! Love Cedar Cove!!
So sad the way the series ended. Please make a movie on Hallmark to give us closer. To much left up in the air. Come on..that was not a good ending.
It was a shame that it ended so abruptly. Shows that ended their series runs with an announced and planned ending, such as M*A*S*H, Cheers, and even Star Trek Voyager, usually had a much larger audience than those that didn’t. Gee, where would we be if Dallas ended like this and we never found out who shot J.R.? And BTW, we liked the Cove much more than the Bay.
This lovely drama has still a long way to go with lots of unanswered questions but plenty of new avenues to open and explore. Real shame. A rethink is needed for a return of this warm drama with many twists and turns as there are in life.
I wish there could be a season 4 or a mini special for CedarCove to finish the story lines off. You left too much up in the air.
Totally agree. Disappointed
So disappointed that there is no season 4 to at least wrap everything up. At least do a 2 hour movie or something. These characters and their stories deserve that much
I agree! As much as I love Chesapeake Shores, I miss Cedar Cove…I was very disappointed that it just ended with so many loose ends. Please give us a finale of some sort!
I loved Cedar Cove, one of the best family shows ever. I like all the stars, I wish that Hallmark would bring this back.
We really liked it, too. Looked forward to it every week.
I just finished watching the last episode of Cedar Cove and am extremely disappointed with the ending. I loved the show and was hoping for a conclusion. Why can’t we keep family oriented shows going? Bring back Cedar Cove for a 4th season.
I bought my first Cedar Cove book at a garage sale and from that point had to read all the others in the series. Then I found out it was made into a Hallmark series and was so excited, so I purchased all 3 seasons. I was so disappointed that it ended as a cliff hanger. Please consider bringing it back. Not only for the answer we are all waiting for, but there are still so many stories left to be told.
I am very disappointed that Cedar Cove was cancelled. I wish you would bring it back, it was a favorite of mine as are all of the Hallmark series. Before you make the decision to cancel something it might help to ask those who watch religiously!
I agree, ratings are important but the public should have the say so in my opinion.
I am so sorry they cancelled Cedar Cove. It was my favorite series and I was so looking forward to seeing what happened this year. The cast, storyline, writing, set design, wardrobe, location shots, just everything about it was top quality all the way. It was new and exciting every episode and never predictable. The characters were real and relatable and nothing “corny” about it. Hallmark made a huge mistake with this one! PLEASE BRING IT BACK
I really loved the Cedar Cove series here in Australia, and found the end scene a bit of an unfinished story, to be finalised. So please re consider and give us at least a complete end of the story to Cedar Cove, I really think this story could go further.
