Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
My husband and I are very disappointed to hear of the cancellation of Cedar Cove. We just started watching during season 3 and were looking forward to season 4. We are going to watch it from the beginning on Netflix to see what happened from the start of the show. It would be nice to at least have a movie that kind of ties up the different story lines. Even better would be to reconsider the cancellation.
Cedar cove was such a refreshing series!!! I am so disappointed it has been cancelled. Please think again – good cast, great filming locations, good story lines and a wholesome show…
I am so disappointed in the Hallmark channel especially with their cancelling
Cedar Cove. Some of their new movies belong in a second rate line up. What has gone wrong with the channel I used to have respect for? Please find the good taste you use to have.
Please renew the Cedar Cove series. You hooked three in this family and we thoroughly enjoy the setting and the story. It is another great Hallmark series. We are going to miss it until it returns.
So disappointed that Cedar Cove isn’t going to have a fourth season. I loved the show and the actors. Please consider another season or a 2 hour special to wrap things up.
So disappointed. Please reconsider.
I’m so disappointed! I was just checking to see when the new season begins and saw its been cancelled. Cedar Cove was such a good wholesome show! I really hope to at least see a wrap-up.
Well good to know. Will never invest time in another hallmark series. Thanks!
Terrible to cancel such a good show. Great writing and great cast. Shame on you Hallmark.
This is typical these days. CBS is notorious for dumping shows without warning. We need more programs like Cedar Cove not less. The canceling of Cedar Cove is a disappointment.
Was looking to see when Cedar Cove was coming back on and much to my disappointment, it is cancelled!! Sure am getting tired of repeat movies
So sorry to see this excellent series cancelled. There are so few shows on television now that have a moral, well developed story that addresses issues in life with character and dignity. It is too bad that you did not end it as a complete script instead of leaving everything up in the air. Congratulations to the cast for their wholesome and excellent portrayals. This show will be missed! I really think you should reconsider your decision
Soooooo disappointed, I was looking forward to the next season. I don’t care for all the reality TRASH they show on TV, Cedar Cove was a wonderful series. I guess I’m the minority who wants to be entertained with a pleasant program that was enjoyable to watch and had a great story line.
Very disappointed…really enjoyed Cedar Cove….very much of a love story and I really looked forward to watching it….
That is such a disappointing thing to do. I started watching when j was recovering from the effects of chemo & radiation. It was great to get my mind off of every day life. I was so waiting for the next season, now it feels unfinished! Not what i or many of your followers wanted. Sad!!!!!
Oh no! Terrible news! So looking forward to Cedar Cove. A great cast and storyline. Just WHAT does it take to get a normal story of people dealing with issues like the rest of us, not plastic surgery horrors, fighting fake families, over-exposed celebrities??
