Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I wish there was a cedar cove season 4 I loved the show we could have at least got a proper ending instead of not knowing What was going to happen I wish hallmark didn’t cancel this show.
My husband and I really enjoyed this series. Would have liked one more season to wrap up the story instead of leaving us hanging.
This is one of the only shows I have seen in a long time that deals with situations real people deal with and did so in a wholesome way. I could watch this show with all of the family without concern. Please provide a proper ending for us. The show was great!
Sad to read Cedar Cove has been cancelled. I enjoyed the stories associated with the characters. It was a warm and entertaining show. Would like to see a finale.
I was not always able to watch Cedar Cove on Saturday nights, so I bought the season from Amazon on my Kindle only to spend my money on a story without an ending. Not to mention that Season 4 was the best season ever. Hallmark owes it to its fans to shoot one more season and wrap all of these story lines up like Downton Abbey. You had devoted fans that you simply just dropped. Very, very disappointed at what you think of your viewers.
well, a proper ending would have been the least they could have done, by respect for the show’s audience.
So sorry to hear that Cedar Cove was cancelled. It was an escape from the not so good world news. Scenery was gorgeous! That’s what hooked me!
Please don’t cancel…Cedar Cove 2016… I loved watching the series
So disappointed to learn Cedar Cove has been cancelled. You let me down, Hallmark. It would be nice to at least wrap hings up. Left us hanging! Wonderful story, talented cast. Maybe a special movie for closure?
PLEASE, Please, Don’t cancel this show
How could cancel the show and not at the very least tie up the loose ends?
I began watching the show on Netflix and was trying to continue on with the 3rd season when I saw it was cancelled. I am very disappointed because I felt the characters really were given depth and there were many story lines that needed to be continued. I’m very disappointed.
Terrible to cancel without warning. Please bring it back. Or do a special that gives us some closure as to what happens to the characters futures. Don’t think I will be watching the new show “Chesapeake Shores” because I’ll get hooked and then you may cancel that without warning too! Please don’t do the same with “When calls the Heart” or the “Good Witch”. They are my favorite shows (as well as “Cedar Cove.) Gives me something to look forward to on Weekend TV. Probably lost viewers because it was on in the summer. I bet it would do better… Read more »
Please reconsider. My husband and I have been anxiously awaiting the season premiere only to see there isn’t one. PLEASE bring back Cedar Cove!! We deserve a wrap up movie at the very least. Or maybe the occasional movie to continue the story along.
I Love the show and really would like to see it be renewed!!!!! If not I guess I will have get the books, which I really don’t have much time for. We really miss my favorite show!
