Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
My husband and I looked forward to watching this every week and we were wonder when it would be on again only to find out its been cancelled. THATS AWEFUL news. You could have at least a few episodes leading up to a finale show instead of just killing the show. A another great TV series cancelled VERY SAD!
I’m so upset to learn that there will be no season four of Cedar Cove! I just watched the last episode of season three on Amazon Prime and was looking forward to watching the next season! I was checking the Internet to find out when it would be aired and just found out that it was cancelled. I’m so sad!!! I loved that show!
Not happy!!! I loved watching this series. It was a pleasure seeing something on TV without having to hear bad language or nudity. Something the whole family could watch together and come away with some value. Please at least bring back one episode that will give the fans closure!
Thank you!
Very upset it was cancelled. Could not wait until each new episode…
I enjoyed Cedar Cove. Not sure why it was cancelled when you had almost 2 million viewers.
Very disappointed to read of Cedar Cove’s cancellation. Sad to see a show like this go away, and other shows with gore, blood, and violence prevail.
I really enjoyed Cedar Cove. Looked forward to it every week. Can’t believe you cancelled it. It was a great series.
I loved Signed, Sealed and Delivered and you cancelled it. I loved Cedar Cove. At LEAST, if you’re going to cancel, do a final show, make it a movie so we’re not left hanging!
No need to start watching any new series on the Hallmark channel. Why bother to get invested in a series that will be cancelled by the network before the storyline has had a chance to end with closure for the viewer. So long Hallmark!
I really enjoyed Cedar Cove and was so looking forward to the next season, it was so refreshing to watch a show where everyone had Christian values. I really think it’s such a mistake to take it off.
Boy do I are with you there! Finally a decent show! Loved it!!
What a huge mistake this station has made! It also shows just how much that this stations does not care about its viewers. We your viewers of many years deserve the respect of at least endings given in advance. This particular show was a good wholesome show. Your movies over and over again are the same old text and boring. As for me we must part ways, I will not support a station like this.
We were looking forward to the return of Cedar Cove. We’ll miss it. Very disappointed. It was a pleasant calm show, quite different from the plethora of violent and edgy programs.
So sorry to see show cancelled. Really enjoyed watching. It was a show I could watch with my family. Not many you can do that with anymore. So many unanswered questions really feel like we were left hanging.
I am so sad the show was canceled. There should have been closure for it instead of leaving us hanging . I expected more from the Hallmark channel than this.
Cancellation seemed premature. The series was finding its tone. Too bad. My wife and I just discovered it and loved it.
